I just changed the water pump impeller on my 1994 25 hp Yamaha. I hooked everything back up but now I can't get reverse to engage. I've tried adjusting the nuts on the shift rod, but all I can get it to do is grind but not engage. Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?
Thanks.
I'm replacing the water pump impeller on my 1994 25 hp Yamaha outboard. I watched a video on YouTube (so now I'm an expert--) and they mentioned greasing the drive shaft. Does anyone know what type of grease should be used?
Also, I'm going to change the lower unit oil. The NAPA parts store...
I broke the skeg off my 1994 25 hp Yamaha outboard and have been looking for a replacement skeg on-line. It looks like they don't make them for motors under 30 hp. Has anyone ever had any luck fabricating a skeg replacement or found a replacement for a 25 hp?
Thanks.
I removed the live well from my aluminum boat to make more room, plus you can't use live bait fish around here. So now I have three holes in my hull--two in the stern below the waterline near the drain plug (on for pumping the water in and the other for draining it out of the live well), and on...
I just finished painting a coat of primer on the below-water-line part of my hull, and the transom. The boat is aluminum. I used Valspar metal primer--but (as my neighbor kindly pointed out) it doesn't specifically say its an aluminum primer. I looked on-line and found that Rustoleum makes a...
I have a 1980s Alumacraft Backtroller 17 that has a few dings. I've pulled everything out of it (storage boxes, live well, decking, transom, etc.) and I'm rebuilding it. I found four cracks in three ribs (they'll get braced and welded today). I found the cracks in the hull yesterday during the...
I leak tested my boat today and found two cracks in the aluminum hull. Can these be fixed with a with Gluvit or is there a way to fix them by welding, patching,...?
Thanks.
Re: Alumacraft Backtroller 17 Restore
I was cleaning the old Gluvit off the interior of the boat last night and found that one of the boat's ribs is cracked through and two more have cracks, but not going all the way across. I'm not sure what would have cracked the ribs--they are about 4' back...
Re: Alumacraft Backtroller 17 Restore
I finally got the adhesive off the boat. WD 40 and a putty knife worked best. I buffed the exterior with a cup brush on an angle grinder. I'll wipe it with mineral spirits and clean it with tri-sodium phosphate before painting. I'll finish scraping the...
Re: Alumacraft Backtroller 17 Restore
I spent the weekend removing the decals from off the side of the boat using a heat gun and a scraper. Everything is off now except a ton of the adhesive the decals left behind. Can this stuff be removed with a wire wheel? Or maybe a metal hand brush and...
Re: Alumacraft Backtroller 17 Restore
I vacuumed the sand and debris out of the bottom of the boat tonight and am seeing a pretty heavy application of some sort of epoxy that was poured over the rivet heads that go through the bottom of the boat. Its the yellow stuff in the photos. I'm not...
Re: Alumacraft Backtroller 17 Restore
I finally had time to work on the boat today and was able to remove the transom. It took a bit of work, and a little pounding with the hammer (not much!), but now its out. That's the last of the major parts removal, although I'm thinking about removing...
Re: Alumacraft Backtroller 17 Restore
Well I took your advice and went after the transom today. Is there a trick to it? I removed all the rivets and bolts--at least everything I can see, but the unit wont budge. I spent a few minutes tapping with a hammer and poking around with a flat tipped...
