Watermann the wife said "NO" to two boats, so the other one must go, sadly. However, this one cleaned up real nice!!

Well, this has been a fun project, but I got my 180 to deal with, so this one is going up for sale. Here are some final pictures before she gets listed within the next couple days. Thanks to you all for providing support, guidance, and opinions!!

    1980 Starcraft SS160 Restoration

So, I was on my way back from my parents about halfway home when the front strap of the boat cover snapped off and the cover started flopping in the wind. I saw a "Rest Area 1 Mile" sign so I decided I would just pull off there and take the cover off. Pulled into the rest area, took the boys to...

    New Boat choices

Offer accepted!! I'm really looking forward to his fitting our family well. The good part is everything seems to work and it comes with the jumper seats in the back, the bow cover, and the bimini. The bad part is it's currently at my parent's place 3 hours away and I'm not sure when I'll have...

    New Boat choices

Hey fellas. I need your thoughts. I have the opportunity to buy a 1990 Starcraft Supersport 180 with a 1990 60 hp Mercury on it for a really good price. If you recall, my current boat is a 1980 SS 160 with a 70 hp Chrysler on it. I'd like to know your thoughts on whether you think it would be...

    1978 Starcraft 22 ft SS v5 restore

The important thing is to make sure each power line is protected with the appropriate fuse within a foot of the power source- especially the wire that feeds the fuse panel from the battery. If you need to, run separate wires with an inline fuse on your large amperage items directly from the...

    1980 Starcraft SS160 Restoration

Been really enjoying the boat lately. A trip out with my boys had my boat leaning on one side and left us bouncing a little bit in some choppy water, so I was looking up hydrofoils to help stabilize the boat a bit. In my internet search, I came across Nauticus Smart Tabs. The reviews on these...

    1980 Starcraft SS160 Restoration

Well, had the boat out about every day for the past week and it's running like a champ. The kids keep asking to go out fishing too!! I added a fish finder I had laying around to the front trolling motor so I can finally see what I'm doing up there. Definitely a good decision.

Thanks. So I posted my question in the engine forum. While I was in there, I read another post about someone else who thought their reed valves were going bad and their symptoms sounded like mine- dead cylinder with wet plugs but plenty of spark and good compression. Someone noted that the fuel...

    1969 Chrysler 70HP - Model 7071 Rectifier/Regulator

There's a part on my motor called "Trip Regulator". Does anyone know what it's supposed to do and how to tell if it's not working as it should?

Yeah, after doing a little more research on it, sounds like it's pretty normal when there's no voltage regulator and using lead acid deep cycle batteries. There is a part behind the selenium rectifier called a "trip regulator" but no documentation on what it does. My guess is that it's possibly...

    1980 Starcraft SS160 Restoration

Yeah, I need to check the timing. I'm sure this it part of the issue. I have a new rectifier that I need to install. I'm getting a high voltage when opening up the throttle so I think the rectifier will help with that. I don't see a voltage regulator on my motor and I doubt it's built into my...

    1980 Starcraft SS160 Restoration

Well, I've still been tinkering with the boat since it's still just really bogged down. I've cleaned the carbs twice now very very thoroughly and made sure the float needle is not sticking. I discovered the problem to be with the bottom (3rd) cyclinder. The spark plug was not very carboned and...
