I just purchased a 1991 VXR and would like to hear if this ski has any weak links on it? I know most manufactures have flaws here and there,and i'm just looking to hear if there is anything that wears out more than usual or breaks etc.

What year did Mercruiser start using the better bushings and seals on the upper shift shaft? I have a 1996 and the bottom bushing seems sloppy,is that normal? The cable didn't look like it had any water in it,but the u-joint bellows had a very small amount in between the bellow ridges.
Why does the manual say to install the gimbal bearing with the bellhousing on? Wouldn't it be easier to do it with the housing removed? I thought as long as it is going in straight your all good.
