You could put some brackets on the crossmembers of that galvanized trailer and install bunks. You need bolster brackets, pivot brackets, and U-bolts similar to the pic below. They are not expensive. I agree with waterman on the trailer weight capacity - personally I wouldn't want to have to...
Well, I ended up picking up that trailer. I replaced the bunks with some Douglas fir and 32oz marine carpet. I also replaced the rusted bunk swivel brackets and hardware. The frame brackets are aluminum so I added some electrical tape to electrically isolate them and hopefully prevent some...
WM I took your advice and started looking - I'm going to check out the trailer below on Saturday. It needs some work - the brakes aren't working (hopefully just low fluid) and I'll probably replace as many of the non galvanized rusted parts as I can (bunk support brackets, u-bolts, and that...
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted so I thought I'd give an update. The family really enjoyed the boat during the warm weather. Since the weather cooled down I've been taking it out fishing for cutthroat trout. I installed one downrigger and plan to install another. I'm new to...
Hey guys, I wanted to get some thoughts on this. I have been using my 08 Yamaha four stroke for trolling with downriggers for trout on the lake. I drag a 5 gallon bucket to get down to the speed I need. I know that this is not ideal but I am working with what I have. I am racking up the...
Hey guys, I currently have cable steering on my 90hp OB and it can be somewhat difficult to handle. In some some situations it takes a lot of force on the wheel just to keep the boat going straight. From what I read, hydraulic steering is the best option but the kits I see online are $600-1200+...
Lots of updates. I painted all the plywood panels and front walkway on the boat. The sliding doors were installed to cover the area under the splashwell. The panels were installed on the bench and the bench installed in the boat. I ended up putting tee nuts in the floor and bolted the bench to...
The swim platform bracket arrived but the angle on it didn't match the transom so I made up a shim from some extra starboard material I had from my transducer mounting block. I got the platform mounted up and all holes sealed with 4200. We tested it out on the lake yesterday and it worked great...
Well I finished up the important wiring and she's seaworthy again! We've taken her out twice so far and everything is working great. I ended up returning that swim ladder and getting a platform with ladder. The ladder would've been a simple install but I decided it's worth the extra effort to...
Any tips from some fellow boaters? We've taken our 1 year old out 3 times now, and each time she'll fall asleep in her life jacket in my wife's arms while cruising but as soon as we try to put her down she wakes up. I have a small thermarest camp mattress pad that we tried laying her on in the...
Yea those I/O tubs have a much taller transom. I think my OB transom wood is only 12-14" tall. The wood doesn't extend below the floor which is good for avoiding transom rot due to bilge water, but bad for mounting a ladder.
Yea I will have to look at the ladder again, you are right it looks like there won't be much toe room at the top step. The Amazon description and the manufacturer's website both say that it's designed to mount directly to the transom tho. I looked at swim platforms but I think the transom is too...
