I am wondering when then float is properly set how much fuel should be in the float bowel in order to stop fuel flow. I have the regular rod (not spring) needle set to factory level and drop. However the fuel level just barely covers the main jets. How high should the fuel level be?
Thanks
I rebuilt my 2 barrel mercarb spring needle, factory specs, set the idle speed, and have the idle mixture set about 1 1/2 turns out. I am very happy with the improved starting as it was leaking before rebuild.
However, the engine bogs as it never has before when pushing (not punching) the...
I know it must be set in the water, in gear and engine warmed up.
Does anyone have any experience on how much to compensate while running it on the muffs? For example, idle speed set at 850rpm will produce 700rpm in the water. I would like to be close before I drop it in the lake and test. Thanks!
I have a 3.0 with the EST ignition this is a replacement engine installed last fall. I would like to check/set the idle speed using my dwell meter/shop tach. This shop tach is the two lead unit, one lead for the battery and one lead for the neg side of the coil. Promlem is now I don't have the...
I rebuilt my '89 3.0 Mercarb with the Sierra kit. I set the float height and drop for use with the spring needle following the mercarb service manual. I reinstalled carb and fuel pours into intake maifold while cranking. I am getting too much fuel.
My question is where to start trouble shooting...
I am in the process of repowering my '89 SeaRay with a new 3.0L after throwing a rod in theh 89 3.0L.
The bolt patterns of the manifold are the same and it bolts up nicely. However the new gasket and head ports are smaller than the ports on the '89 manifold.
The gasket bolt positions are...
Where can I read about how to properly set both my idle mixture and my low idle RPM. I have searched many posts and am looking for a good post or how to page somewhere.

Thanks for your help.
I have a '89 3.0 and am wondering the "proper" way to start both cold and warm. The no EFI and eletric choke is a new deal for me. Just wanted to prevent flooding and its associated headaches.

If anyone can suggest their methods for both cold and warm starts it would be...
I have the Petronix II and the Flamethrower II coil for installation in my 89 3.0 alpha leg.

The instructions suggest bypassing the resistor wire because the coil has internal resistanc. Both the coil and the conversion are designed to handle 12v.

Where have people been...
My '89 Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha One worked for 20 minutes and suddenly died while pulling a skier. It did have some hesitation on full throtle hole shots while getting the skier up. However, it seemed to run along fine. The engine would not restart and we were towed in.

Thought gas, but...
I am planning on replacing the u joint on my 89 alpha one. If I understand correctly, only the front joints can be replaced without removing the drive shaft.

Some posts suggested filing or grinding to allow the caps to fall out. Can someone explain this technique, or is it just to...
I just purchased a Sea Ray 180 with the Mercruiser 3.0.

It runs 4300 rpm (max WOT is 4200-4600 for the 3.0) at 32.7 mph gps trimmed up for max rpms without ventilation with a 15.5 x 17 Black Max aluminum. This is with one person 12 gallons fuel with little gear.

Time to...
Does anyone have a prepurchase run though of what engine/outdrive problems to look for when buying as used boat.

Looking for information on how to inspect the bellows, gimbal, and the like.

I intend to but the muffs on and check compression and for water in the right and...
