parts catalog

How helpful would a Ken Cook Parts Catalog be for me in maintaining and rebuilding my 1967 Johnson 6HP? Does it have good exploded views of assemblies and components?

TYVM
Bruce

    Gasoline/oil mix

How crucial is the 50:1 mixture? For example, 1 gallon of gas should have 2.56 ounces of oil so I guess an even 3 ounces would be ok? For 2 gallons it should be 5.12 ounces, so should I use only 5 ounces or go to 5 1/2?

Bruce

    carb installation 6hp Johnson

Need hints on carb installation on 6hp Johnson. Carb to manifold nuts are in especially cramped space, and cam follower return spring usually takes me many tries to get it right. Removing no problem. Never thought my fingers were that big!

Thanks guys.

Bruce

    Gear case oil

Notice lot of discussion re: weight and kind of gear oil and need to prevent oil leakage and entry of water into gearcase. Conversely the British Seagull Outboard manual says a bit of water seepage is ok in its engines. Is this difference because the Seagull uses plain bronze bushing/bearings...

5 hp johnson owner's manual etc

Got a Seloc manual for my 5 hp Johnson and found it minimally helpful. Paid about $80 for Ken Cook Service Manual and Owner's Manual. Much better. HOWEVER, nowhere in these books does it say what position the shift lever should be in for reverse or forward. I assume neutral is in middle, and I...

    5 hp johnson carb rebuild

Got a carb rebuild kit, the Bombardier high priced one, from a dealer. The kit does not have a rubber cam follower! The one on my carb now has a slight groove worn in it. Is it possible to relpace this with a nylon bushing of the same or close to same size?

1967 Johnson 6 hp- and the beat goes on

Am going to opt for new fuel pump.

While at it, should I get carb rebuild kit? What is best way to unscrew high speed jet apart from special tool the manual recommends?

Does this motor have leaf valves (forgive the naivete of the question- I have never worked on any but...

    1967 Johnson 6 hp- again

Just received fuel pump rebuild kit from iboats. All manuals I consulted (including Ken Cook) say this pump cannot be rebuilt. Now I have the parts but no documentation on how to rebuild the pump. Yes, I disassembled the original pump with no attention given to original configuration. Please...
