Looking to purchase a wakeboard and bindings for our kids. They have wakeboarded a couple times and can water ski well. Our son is 80lbs and daughter is 65lbs. I'd like to purchase something decent like a Hyperlite but I'm wondering if its worth it for something they're going to grow out of in a...
Re: Daysailer Rebuild
Here the top deck has been reunited with the bottom using thickened epoxy applied with a caulking gun. Now it is time to do the cosmetic work. Some more sanding and filling with gelcoat. Then a top coat using the tip and role method which turned out really well. As hard as...
Re: Daysailer Rebuild
Here I used dock foam as flotation foam and was able to make a hot wire knife out of a 12 volt power supply and some stainless steel lock-wire. The center picture shows the wire which was suspended from the ceiling to the base of this cart. The plywood provided a nice...
Re: Daysailer Rebuild
I used foam core for the floor as it would create and nice thick solid but flexible structure and then I used Meranti board for the seating area. Since Meranti is not very strong and can be pulled apart easily, I drilled 1 inch holes throughout the length of it and aloud...
Re: Daysailer Rebuild
This was the main problem with the boat. The floor was soft and since it had a contoured shape I didn't want to get at it from the top. I cut out the bottom and removed all the rotted balsa core.
And here's my gas powered shop vac. There...
Re: Daysailer Rebuild
The first thing I had to do was separate the top deck from the hull without doing any major damage. It actually wasn`t too bad. The seam had been weekend over the years and came apart with a gasket scraper and hammer after I drilled out all the rivets. The biggest problem...
Hello folks

This time last year I was deep into rebuilding an old...
Hello folks
I'm in the process of restoring an old day sailor and I've hit a road block. I need to replace the edge trim that wraps around the perimeter of the hull where the upper deck meets the hull. Most of these joints are an overlapping seam and there are a million different types of trim...
Re: Sealing fiberglass
Here's the floor coming apart. After 2 or 3 months in a dry heated garage tied to the ceiling, the balsa filler in the floor was still dripping wet.
Here it is with new foam core and meranti filler in the seating area.
Re: Sealing fiberglass
Wow. I didn't expect a reply from the legendary Oops! I'm not worthy!
I'm sure I've made mistakes in this project but that's how I learn and I like to experiment. Let me know what you think.
This is the boat when I brought it home
This is the floor cut out in the...
Hello folks
I'm restoring an old Paceship Sailboat and have a question about sealing the exposed fiberglass on the inside of the hull. The boat was waterlogged so I separated the hull and replaced the rotten stringers with plywood and epoxy/fiberglass cloth, and repaired the delaminated deck...
Hello folks
I'm in the process of restoring an old 17 ft day sailor built by Paceship. I'm about to install new stringers and have read that I should bed them in with something like PL Premium or a comparable adhesive. After removing the original white oak and plywood stringers I have found...
