We have an '85 AQ125A in a Capri Bowrider that by any standards has been a low-use boat since we purchased new. In fact, it was in storage for near 5 years until we started using again this season. The engine has never smoked and uses no oil between changes, however even when new we would have a...
I recently discovered something others may not have and would find helpful. After several days of skiing, our VP AQ125A started showing temp increases regardless of rpm & load -- came up to about 200-210 - which has never happened in the 25 years we've had the boat. The engine normally comes up...
The manual for the VP AQ125A/270 says the oil level (10-40w) in the drive should be somewhere on the flat part of the stick (which is about the bottom inch of the stick, not screwed in), however some guys are saying they top their's off to the top of the stick hole. Isn't too much oil in the...
I'm changing the impeller on my '85 VP AQ125A and can't seem to get the old one out. It looks and feels like it's in good shape, no missing fins and rubber feels pliable. I've tried grabbing it with needle-nose pliers in several places around the impeller but it just wont budge. Any slick tricks...
Looking for a fast and reliable source for an impeller kit for '85 VP AQ125A. I'm not sure what the part number is (875575 ??) which tells you how long it's been since replaced - once since new and it's still working fine now, but...
As I recall it was not a difficult job -- a couple of bolts...
While inspecting bellows on my Volvo-Penta 270 (bellows are fine), I noticed a wear grove on the shift cable which means it will need to be replaced at some point. If the outer part of the cable wears through, is there another layer to prevent water intrusion? If not, how far inside can the...
When I "hand inspect" my drive bellows it looks and feels fine and there are no leaks however I do get a fair amount of black on my hand from the bellows. Is this just normal oxidation or a sign of impending bellows failure? Yes, it's been several years since the bellows were last changed, but...
Anyone know the exact size of the 6 bolts that bolt the 270 drive to the transom on an '85 Bayliner 19' Capri? In the manual this item is shown in Fig. 56 as #58 (screw).
I've searched the threads and cannot seem to locate the oil pressure and temp specs for the '85 VP AQ125A. At WOT, mine runs 180 degrees and just under 80 lbs of oil pressure. Pressure drops to about 40 at lower RPMs.
Anyone know what's "normal" for the AQ125A right off hand?
Thanks! :)
I have an '85 Bayliner 1950 Capri BR w/ VP AQ125A / 270 I/O. With lots of love & care since new it's all in great shape, runs great, and we still enjoy it. Today I noticed the caulk around the outdrive housing on the transom is turning dark in places and has a crack running lengthwise around the...
After yesterday's disaster changing the oil in my AQ125A (2 qts in the catch pan, 2 qts. in the bilge one of which ended on the garage floor through the drain hole), I'm looking for a method less risky than a plastic bag in an aluminum roaster pan in the bilge. Through the dip stick tube?
Is...
It's been many years since I bought a new boat, but I'm headed in that direction pretty soon. In the current market, can I expect a dealer to actually "deal" on the "sticker price" or is pretty much "what you see is what you pay" on new boats? My first boat purchase (new) was an '85 Bayliner...
The 4# pressure cap on my VP AQ125A heat exchanger needs to be replaced. Marine parts dealers want between $25-$35 for the item. NAPA auto parts store has a 4# radiator cap that looks identical. Any reason why not to buy the NAPA cap and save the $?
