2 blade or 3 blade prop

I have a 1974 Mercury 200, 20hp outboard with what I assume is the original 2 blade prop. My boat is a 14 foot deep v aluminum fishing boat with a capacity of 950 pounds. Currently the hole shot is a little sluggish but top end speed is outstanding, actually a little scary at times. I primarily...

    200, 20hp shifting problem

I recently bought a 1974 tiller steer short shaft motor for my fishing boat and am having trouble with shifting into reverse. Was told by the owner that he had hit a rock with the motor and had it repaired while on a trip to Canada. Shortly after returning home he lost reverse on the motor and...

    Adding PTT

How difficult is it to add power trim and tilt to an outboard? I would prefer PTT, but have found some good deals on non PTT motors. I am suspecting that this could be a balancing act between the extra cost of adding PTT compared to buying a motor with it already installed.

Bob

    65 HP big enough?

I have recently purchased a 17' Cobia bowrider without a motor. It is a deep v with lots of freeboard. I plan to use the boat for fishing Lake Erie and would like to have the capability of getting of the lake in a hurry should things turn nasty. I found a 1974 65 HP Mercury for a great price and...

Johnson 88 SPL one cyl low

Ok I'm taking my first plunge into the iboat pool here.
I am looking to purchase a very nice 88 that carries 110 PSI on three cylinders and very low PSI on the fourth. The owner (an outboard mechanic)is willing to part with it as-is for cheap and suggests that I hone the three good...
