Boat restoration project and boating novel project both completed.

I began restoring a 1958 Glasspar boat a couple of years ago. But the restoration project got bogged down when evening temperatures dropped too low for epoxy work. To keep my mind mentally engaged in the boat project even when I couldn't be physically, I decided to write a short, boating story...

    anchor setup question

Re: anchor setup question I will definitely look into the anchor retrieval systems you and others mentioned. Thanks. I mostly anchor in much shallower water; but still, it looks like a great idea. Just in case others stumble across this thread and are interested. I forgot to include that I...

    anchor setup question

Re: anchor setup question I too have an old Glasspar with an inaccessible bow. Here's what I did. I ran the anchor line thru the eye of the cleat located at the bow. When the anchor is in the boat, the anchor end of the line runs back along the deck to a port-side cleat (to keep the line...

    Primer bulb problem

Facts: 50 HP Suzuki 4-stroke outboard; 18 gal fuel tank in the bow of a 16 ft Glasspar; Approx 18 feet of 5/16th fuel line. The primer bulb goes flat after a few minutes of running the engine. I took the gas cap off to ensure air is getting into the tank, but the bulb still goes flat. The fuel...

    Wire gauge and fuse sizes

As per my diagram I plan to wire up my running lights and a bilge pump. Need to know the wire gauges to use. Also, for a 1 amp, 12 watt bulb, do I use a 2 amp fuse? Anything else that I need to know? The boat is only 16 feet long, so wire resistivity is not a big factor.

Tank going from 2-stroke fuel to 4-stroke fuel

I am repurposing my long cruise tank going from 2-stroke fuel to 4-stroke fuel. The tank has been emptied and left to air out for quite a while. Can I simply slosh around a gallon or two of gas (gas-only) in the tank to help absorb any remaining oil residue as a way to make it ready for gas-only?

Fuel problem - bulb goes flat

Facts: new Suzuki 4 stroke, new Moeller 6.5 gal tank, new hoses and bulb. Fuel flow thru bulb is correct. Used hose with bulb to pump/siphon gas from old tank to new tank, and pumping the bulb worked fine. Lastly, the vent valve was open. Any ideas why the bulb would go flat after only a few...

Hardware for fastening a plexiglass windshield

I need to locate hardware for fastening the upper windshield to my newly restored, 1958 Glasspar del Mar. As can be seen in the photos, the small bolt goes thru the hole in the lower part of the windshield and the rusty bolt with the flattened end goes thru the deck. I tried the Lowes and Home...

Question on use of clamps to glue plywood on transom

I want to glue a length of 3/8" x 6" x 5' across the transom (i.e., (length-wise) to strengthen it while also providing something to attach a bench-style seat across the width of the transom (actually going to do it twice to produce a 3/4" thick panel). The position of the plywood is too far...

    bilge drain plug question

The transom of the Glasspar I am restoring has a hole as the bilge drain, but it is simply a hole in the plywood. I'd like to purchase a transom drain tube. I found one at West Maine that has an outside diameter of an 1" 1/8. However, the hole in my boat is 3/4". So, I either need to bore out...

Is my stringer reenforcement plan ok?

My first restoration (1958 Glasspar) and my first post, so go easy on me. Read many other posts, but there's nothing like getting direct input on the project in question...like having a bunch of smart uncles to call on. To my surprise the stringers are in pretty good shape. All were only...
