What engine is this?1986 Byliner Ciera DE, Volvo Penta (GM 5.0 or 5.7)

Hi there, I am unsure of what engine I have in a recently purchased boat. I have been told many things about this boat which are different both for better and worse! I have a tech coming tomorrow and he asked what engine I have. I was told 5.7, but is there a way to find out for sure? I...

1985 2550 Ciera Designers Edition Volvo Penta I/O Tilt issue on Outdrive

Hi there, I have been steadily working on my boat for the past 4-6 weeks. It was new to me, brought up in a previous thread. Anyway when I purchased the boat all seemed pretty good, other than the things I have been fixing. I seen the outdrive and motor working no problem. So today I...

Ayuh all, I am now the proud owner of a 1985 Ciera 2750, my first Bayliner. We have owned 2 Sea Ray Seville's, 21' & 22' buddy cabins, and decided to go bigger! We mainly cruise and relax on the many lakes near to where we live, such as Flathead MT Whitefish MT, Ponderray ID, Coeur D'Alene ID...

    Trim up problem, 1986 v6 185 Mercruiser.

So the hoses are are in and I have started topping up the oil in the pump. I put some oil in, checking the dipstick then when I got close to full, I tried to raise/lower the outboard with the trim switch, to try and purge out the air. I pushed the trim switch down, heard the noises change etc...

Hello, So I have been repairing my boat bit by bit since my *NEWBIE* Disaster first day!! which was not almost 2 months ago. I have to say that at times I enjoy working on the boat, but right now I have kinda had enough. Anyway, on to my post. As I have read on similar threads before, after...

NEWBIE * disaster on first day*

Re: NEWBIE * disaster on first day* OK, Water pocket off, without breaking bolts luckily!! Maybe luck changing? The water pocket cover is toast!!! Once I install the new ones and the upper seal kit I will find a thread that covers installing it back together again, hopefully enabling the...

NEWBIE * disaster on first day*

Re: NEWBIE * disaster on first day* Thanks Chris! I have just got in from taking the upper part off! It makes sense what you say. Going back to the shift shaft, again it freely turns, does not let me select Neutral or Reverse, then when I did re-attach the lower to the upper again it stayed...

NEWBIE * disaster on first day*

Re: NEWBIE * disaster on first day* Thanks. Ok, I will drop the upper off and fix on a bench. I have attached a small video, just to see if this looks right. I said it could go in Neutral, but right now I cant get it out of drive. Also the shift shaft spins freely when slightly lifted, and...

Ok, So I am not going to lie, I am totally new to the world of boats & boating. I am a FF, have decent knowledge of many DIY areas including pumps, pumping, rebuilding pressure washers and generally consider myself pretty handy! BUT, when it comes to boats & engines etc, I am an idiot...
