My 200 efi crankshaft has a small spot that is blued on one of the main bearing journals. Blued area is approximately 1" by 3/16" on the radius on the upper edge of the bearing surface. Is this crank usable?
Installing a used crank in my 2001 200 EFI Merc. Crank looks good but the oil pump drive gear seems to be loose on the crank. The gear teeth look unhurt. Mercury shop manual says not to replace gear unless it displays excessive looseness. Can anyone define "excessive looseness" for me? I...
Is the composite oil injection gear on the crankshaft of a 2001 200 efi, 0T391597, supposed to be a tight fit? The crank and gear appear to be undamaged but the gear seems to have quite a bit of "slop" on the crank. I don't want to replace the gear unless it is necessary.
I have a 98 200 efi powerhead that has been rebuilt and put on the shelf for a year. The factory service manual was followed for torque values, tightening procedures, and assembly lubes. Are there any special procedures I should use for startup? The oil line from the bottom of the crank to...

I am putting new head gaskets on a 2001 200 EFI Mercury. The heads have a note cast into them that says not to re-use the head bolts. The note says to torque new bolts to 30 lb./ft. and then 90 degrees. I am considering going with grade 8 studs instead of bolts. Does anyone have a swag at...
I'm rebuiding a 2001, 200 EFI Merc. As I make the rounds looking for parts, I can't help but notice a large number of engine failures similar to mine; a single cylinder melts down and/or seizes sometimes pulling the wristpin out and beating the cylinder up. Almost invariably, the oil injection...
I recently purchased a bass boat with a deceased 2001, 200 horsepower, 2.5 Merc on it. One piston had melted to the point it seized and jerked the rod from the piston promptly ventilating the block, front and back half. The crank appears to be unhurt and I have a good 98 model block. I have 2...
