I found out how to bench test a tach by using a battery charger. The 33 year old tach from the donor boat showed about 2500rpm, but it should only be 600rpm, so it's no good. :sneaky:
My neighbor buddy welded up a tall stand for me made of 2.25x2.25" galvanized square stock which was leftover from when my garage was built.
Having it tall made it easy to pull lower units for water pump changes and whatnot.
I hung a pair of 70HP Merc 3 cylinder engines on it simultaneously...
Speaking of that, I learned today that my local favorite Merc repair shop will be closing at the end of September. 🙁
He's retiring after 35 years. A good run.
Now that I've verified that the engine actually runs and that the hull is sound, I've started working on other stuff, starting with the gauges. I want to get them all up and running like they should. That'll bring a nice comfort level for my wife and me. :sneaky:

Yep, it's a good looking hull with a great ride. The engine is amazing. I still need to get it trimmed high enough to get some more MPH and I'm now working on getting the essential gauges working.
The boat is definitely a project though. Prior owners at some point really tore it apart...
Well, other folks have had the same question and have provided answers. The guy is part of the MLB Replay Review Team.
Here's an AI summary.
And a pic of the guy's hat.
And there are a couple of cameras on either side of the booth. Likely zoom cameras aiming at Home Plate and whatnot.
What a shame. I've been listening to his music for over 50 years. ☹️

And since this is a boating forum...
I forgot to mention the new hydraulic steering on this boat. 🚤
It was my first experience with the hydraulic type. It's incredibly easy to turn with almost no effort to move the wheel. There's not much feedback though. I'm used to the cable style, but the hydraulic type works very well.
