Anybody been able to upgrade their Optimax from 20" to 25"?
I'd like to buy a new boat in the spring but most of the 17-18 foot boats only support a 25" transom. Looking at the 25" motors, it looks like you need a extension box and shaft for in side the motor.
Thanks,
Corey
Can SeaFoam clean-up oil build-up in my cylinders and carbs?
I need something that goes into the Fuel tank too.
Not sure why, but when changing my plugs, I noticed thick Oil all over everything. Probably got it from a bad pre-mix my Dad offered me for "free".
Thx. CF
Got this little kicker from a friend in the family.
Before the repairs, motor would only run 2-3 seconds before dying out.
Changed the Fuel pump, cleaned and installed carb kit.
I can now get the motor to start in WOT, but won't sit down and idle w/o shutting down. Also, it only runs about...
Folks,
Any feedback or concerns when the dealer installed wrong plugs? Been running these all season, and seemed to be missing a little top-end.
I only found out when I was putting the boat away for the season.
Wrong plugs: BUHW-2 (non-tipped plug)
Right plugs: BP8H-N-10 (standard tipped plug)...
Hello Fellow iBoat-ers.
I was given this little 4HP motor as a kicker for trolling beside my 100HP Merc.
It "barely" runs as it definately needs a little TLC.
Probably needs a carb kit and possibly a fuel pump.
Here's the question:
I notice a few folks mentioned to use a "better" than 50:1...
Alright, I have noticed that my 1995-100HP has lost a little of its va-voom lately.
In looking over the OEM Service Manual, I notice a graph that states upto 14% HP loss in Summer months.
Has anybody else seem this effect?
Any suggestions to increase HP?
Thanks CF.
Just bought a Boat and Motor from a Dealer in NY State.
1993 Monark 1600 Fish and Ski (Aluminum)
1995 Mercury 100HP (w/ SS prop)
Here's what I am concerned about:
- Boat "twists" to the Left dangerously up acceleration.
- Twisting goes away, when trimmed upwards.
- AT WOT, the boat "dances"...
My '95 Merc 100 is having tough time accelerating between 1800-2600 RPMs.
Below 1800, she idles good but not great.
Above 2600, she runs real nice right upto 5200 RPM at WOT.
To the best of my knowledge, I have a 2 + 2 ignition system that engages cylinders 3 & 4 at around 1800 RPM. My...
Anybody have access to a good sync and link procedure for a 1995 100HP inline 4-cylinder?
Search function is not operational, so might as well just ask.
Cheers. CF
Hey Champ 55,
Did you do any service work to the engine lately?
Sometimes even the simplest of repair could have cause another problem.
My guess would be a bad ignition switch. (not sending kill signal to switch box).
Please let us know what you find . ....... CF
Just bought this boat and motor.
When trying to accelerate, it misses and hiccups between 2000 and 2600 RPM.
After that it runs great WOT around 5200 RPM @ 42 MPH.
I believe it sounds like a Carb setting, but do I need to Sync and Link?
Thanks CF
I am looking at boat and motor on Wednesday with a 1995 Merc 100HP. Dealer claims the Engine has good compression numbers but I'll do my own check after it's been running on the lake.

Can somebody give me a good range for compression here? (100PSI, 125PSI?)

Thx. CF
Folks.
I just helped my buddy install a Sierra Marine aftermarket rectifier / regulator for his 1988 50HP Johnson outboard. The orignal had melted RED wire to chassis.

The OMC part had Three Yellow wires with color patterns and a RED output wire.
The Sierra part has Three...
Folks.

I have one more question.
Would 94-octane cause significant starting problems on an older 1988 150XP Evinrude?
I am trying to eliminate obvious problems on why my outboard is way out of synch.
(ie. backfiring and not starting)

CF
Is it possible for a new water pump to fail in the lake but work nicely with the MUFFS on?
Any ideas here?

I just paid my tech to change both the housing and impeller and wouldn't PEE properly at the boat launch.
Shortly after, motor failed to run again properly.
<br...
