Have a question regarding my 1978 70 hp Evinrude 70879c..
On the gearbox near the water intake, there is a hex head screw.
Mine has been butchered by the former owner, and I am wondering
what its purpose is..

I finally have the old 1978, 70hp evinrude off the boat while i work on the structure.
I was going to strip the tilt trim pump and clean everything up.
the prob is i can't get the tilt tube out..
I removed the nut of each end and removed the grease nipples just in case.

I was out working in the boat and noticed that the compass (internals) were upside down..
the only way i was able to get the numbers right side up, was to remove the compass from the helm, turn it upside down and shake it while turning it up and...

ok. the 3 wire pump uses 1 relay
2 wire pump uses 2 relays.
so. you are going from a 2 wire pump to a 3. so, this is easy.
because (with evinrude) they decided to only use a relay for "up" and direct wire for down as...

Just for g iggles, i dug out my old vac caby sync gauges.
didnt i get a shock to find nothing on my carbies to attatch them to.
how does one sync the carbies on these engines using vaccum gauges?

Mind you, i only paid about 1k for it, and it needs a hell of a lot of work.
