Hi,
I originally purchased 2 seperate batteries so that my 1979 70HP Mercury outboard would be isolated on one with my trolling motor / trim and all accessories hooked up to the second battery.
I've run into a problem where I'm wearing down my deep cycle battery pretty quickly running pretty...
Hi,
I have 70HP 1979 Mercury. I bought a new turning point prop. It has a 13 pitch. At full out with the boat loaded I'm turning at 5000 rpm and top speed is about 32Mph. The engine's proper rpm range is between 5000 and 5500 rpm at full throttle as per the manual.
I was wondering if I put...
Hi Again,
I have a 79 70HP mercury outboard. I rebuilt the carbs, put new floats etc. I set the fuel mixture needles "long silver needles on the front of the carb" counterclockwise one turn from lightly seated as per the instructions in the manual.
I'm having troubles starting the motor. I...
Hi,
I have a 1979 70HP Mercury. I'm having issues lining up the copper water tube with the water intake hole. Is there some trick to lining it up as I tried running the motor and there is no water coming out of the pee hole so I shut it down after about 20 seconds.
I'm not sure if I'm in or...
Not sure if I should be posting this trim question here but here it goes...
I don't have the manual for this model panther trim and can't seem to find it on the internet.
I have a 79' 70HP mercury outboard which has been mounted to a panther 135 trim/tilt kit.
Considering the motor is...
I recently purchased float part # 18-7249 as a float replacment for my carbs. These are made of plastic as opposed to cork "which were showing signs of wear".
The diagram show an adjustment of .690/.665
Is this in reference to 1 inch? So .690 inches? These floats are substantially...
I have 1979 70HP mercury serial 5355658. I removed the thee bolts which connect the fuel pump to the motor however the fuel pump won't budge. It's as if someone glued it in place.
I want to remove it so I can install my new fuel pump kit. Any ideas on why it won't budge?
Thanks as always....
Hi,
I recently acquired a 1979 70HP mercury outboard. When I dismantled the foot to change the water pump I noticed a seal was missing from the top of the driveshaft and about 40% of the splines have been gouged away.
Should I just replace the missing seal and hope the driveshaft splines...
Hi,
I just received my 70HP 1979 Mercury thunderbolt outboard.
There appears to be a small maybe 1/4" hose which runs inside the foot and parallel to what I believe is the shifter rod. It's coming out of the top of the foot and looks like it has been capped off.
Any ideas what this hose...
Hi,
Would someone know how much this motor weighs. I think my shipping company is trying to gouge me but am not sure.
They are claiming the motor with controls weighs 365Lbs. Is this possible?
Thanks!
Hi,
I have a 1973 Evinrude outboard model 40354d. I'm not sure what is going on however the engine used to start fine.
I recently put in new points, condensor and spark plug wires thinking this would be beneficial as I bought this motor off someone. Compression is good on both cylinders.
My...
Hi,
I have a 1973 40HP evinrude on a 16.5ft Starcraft Holiday aluminum boat. I just bought this boat and took it out for a test drive. It seems to idle fine and sound fine "loud" at WOT.
The boat however appears accelerate ver slowly and I'm thinking the prop is finshed. It sounds as if...
