I got the bracket and starter from ebay, not too expensive. Got them mounted on the motor and found a new wrinkle. the starter drive only comes up to the bottom of the flywheel! Really wish I could find a pert number for the starter motor.
I am in NW Georgia. I found the starter mount online but it does not give a starter that fits. Not sure if I should spend the money on a bracket without a starter.
I have a 1958 power head married to a 1966 18hp everything else. Is there a way to add electric start to this? The rope pull is very hard and I ain't getting any younger.
Thanks your a lifesaver! The previous owner was not kind to this poor motor. He even jb welded a homemade cavitation plate with a dozen sheet metal screws on it. I think there is enough drag from the screws to off set the benifit of the cav plate.
I have a 1966 18hp with a cracked gear casing, I can get a 1969 gear casing for $50. The question is will it fit?? It looks the same, is there something inside that is different? Also what do I do about a gasket since this is no longer available?
I have inherited (previous owner left it here temporarily 18 years ago) a aluminum jon boat. Finally got around to getting a motor and getting it ready for spring. All I can find is a tag pop riveted to the stern with APBP0137 73. Any idea what brand of boat?? I would assume it is a 1973 but...
Ok, that just sounds weird, but I will take yall's word on it. Took some flashing metal and drilled holes in it to match the carb cover just to slow down the dirt daubers. You would not believe how fast they can build a dirt tube.
It seems I have a real Frankenstein motor.58 block, 66 fuel pump, carburetor and God only knows what else. Good thing parts are pretty much interchangeable. Now I have to shorten the fast idle adjusting jet since it seems everything is a bit closer to the front and also make a backing plate for...
I recently bought what I thought was a 1966 Evinrude 18hp model 18602 but the freeze plug says it is a 1958 model 15024 seems someone did a motor swap years ago. Anyway I can not find the thermostat housing on this motor. The parts diagram shows it on top of the head but mine just has a freeze...
