    Gulf Shores trip

This may be the wrong place to post this... sorry in advance if it is. My family and I are going to Gulf Shores Sunday the 19th and will be there a week. I am hoping to get a used prop or mine rebuilt and my tilt/trim motor rebuilt and wondered if someone knew where I should go. I also plan...

    tilt/trim wiring

1971 Chrysler 55 HP 557 HC. Tilt/trim motor had broken wires, and I took it apart last year. I cannot remember which wires go where. There are three wires going into motor: blue, green, black. I believe black goes to one brush. Blue is still attached and goes down and into one of the two...

    clacking when shifting

My 1971 55 HP 557 HC would not shift into reverse the other day at the lake. I have read posts and adjusted accordingly, but I can have: Smooth forward no reverse Smooth reverse no forward Clacking going into and jerking forward AND reverse Hand propping seems to be correct. But under power...

    coil, condenser or points?

I have a miss on my 1971 55 hp chrysler 557 hc. The parts are $$ and I want to save $$. It starts flawlessly and sounds good until I run it for a few minutes at part throttle, then when I bring it down it misses. Both plug wires cause worse running when removed. Is any one piece of this...

drive pin or no drive pin

My 1971 55 hp 557 hc Chrysler manual calls for a drive pin and it or a homemade spacer is necessary to take the play out of the prop on the shaft. I read here somewhere to not use a pin, but is this advice good on my set-up? If not, what makes a good spacer? Thanks, Joe

    timing and coils

I am curious about the timing on my 1971 55 hp 557 hc. I read that the top cylinder is used for timing, but mine has the bottom cylinder at btc when the timing marks line up. Am I missing something? I am waiting on a borrowed timing light, so I haven't done that yet. Also, I am looking for...

    Sheared flywheel key

Hey, all. I am still working on my 1971 55 hp 557 hc and I have a couple of questions. I did not torque the flywheel nut and I broke the key. I replaced it, and now I want to torque it correctly. Can I use a piece of rope in the spark plug hole to hold the crankshaft still? Also, 95...

    shuddering when firing

I got my 1971 557 hc running well in the driveway in a bucket with the prop off, so I decided to put it in a bigger bucket with the prop on so it would have a load on it. The prop threw out all the water, so I decided to put the garden hose up the intake. It shuddered and would not start. I...

    Run Without Battery

Will my 1971 Chrysler with standard ignition run without battery, or will a weak battery make my spark weak?

    compression test

Can I run my outboard long enough for a compression check without the lower unit?

    Plugged water tube

I recently changed an impeller, fuel pump and carb gaskets, needle and seat, thermostat, etc, on my 1971 55 hp chrysler outboard. This was a resurrection of a dormant motor. Started it today, and it did not stream out the water. Ejected some insect pods, and improved a little, but not near...

    Outboard Weight

I built an outboard stand and I am ready to start rebuilding my 1971 Chrysler 55HP, but I am unsure how much it weighs. Can anyone give me advice on the best way to get it from the boat to the stand? Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Any Idea What this is?

I was given this boat w/o title. There is no data plate on the transom. I think the engine is a 1971 Chrysler 55 hp(557 hc). Any help would be greatly appreciated!http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/callipigean/boat031.jpg
