77 9.9 with 15hp carb.

After getting it to run great, lately I noticed at idle it'll burp every few seconds, like the spark plugs don't fire once.

Forgive my sound effects...

Rrrrrrrr...brrrrrrrr...brrrrrrrr

Usually this will drop my rpm's enough to...
For the life of me I can't get that bar out of the trim adjustment holes. It's just too rusted.

PB Blastered it, tried my 5# mini sledge. Now what? I wouldn't really care about it, except the trim is all the way down and slowing my rate of progress.
With a 9.5x10 prop I'm seeing 25mph on a 14' jonboat. Now I'm cheating some with the 15hp carb, but what is the average top speed most 9.9's get with the same setup?
When starting my 9.9 after running hard for a while, it's been pretty grumpy a couple times after it sits for 20-30 minutes.

What's the starting procedure for this? Leave the choke in, turn throttle to start, or idle?
I finally got this 77 9.9 up and running...strong I might add. When I first started it the pisser was throwing water really strong, then it settled down to a light dribble once the motor got going. The water is lukewarm and the exhaust hole water is probably 20 degrees warmer than that...
Finally took my 9.9 out yesterday and after spending 10 minutes trying to start, it finally decided to go after the right combination of levers and knobs.

Once on the water it ran great! Even the guy at the boat rental store said it was faster than most 9.9's he's seen (15hp carb)...
I was suprised to find a new CD2 module for my '77 was only $75 at the dealer. The coils weren't that much either, maybe $35 or so.

Just thought I'd pass this along.
I just spent the past month trying to get this thing started.

New:
Fuel pump
CD module
Two coil kits
Spark plugs
Water pump kit
15hp carb/rebuild kit
Countless man hours

I had been frustrated with it starting, then dying right away. First...
In my last post it was pointed out my fuel pump may not be working right. I took it apart and didn't find any torn/worn rubber pieces, but I'm thinking the plates may not be in the right places.

Any website showing how it goes back together?
I bought this thing for $300 a few months ago. Last night I changed the water pump and swapped in the 15hp carb, with a fresh rebuild kit to boot.

Trying to start it today, it was really grumpy and would only run for a few seconds then quit completely or misfire on either cylinder...
9.9 '75 Evinrude. Whatever that rod is on the swivel bracket to adjust trim is completely locked on there with rust. So far I've tried soaking it with PB Blaster for a few days and tapping aggressively with a 5# hammer, but it won't budge. It's not something that is imperative to operation...
I need a 15hp 1977 carb, but NAPA can't order one. They barely have the water pump kit.

Any place online, maybe a 'wrecking yard' for outboards?
I'm buying this off a friend, making it a winter project/fixer upper.

Model # is 10724a, SN is E0001575.

Also, he pointed out the water pump is probably out, and when the choke is pushed in it'll die. Either of these issues expensive? Any thoughts on this year?
<br...
