    Outboard on E85

This is an old thread, which means the mods will likely trash it, or lock it, if anybody posts on it. So I’ll start a new one, even though it’s the same topic and the original poster never got an answer from anybody actually running E85 in a boat engine...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Because it's not an airliner that can't fly without meeting airworthiness directives and regular inspections. It's a boat engine, and they haven't even managed to keep water out of lower units because seals go bad, much less engine cowlings.

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

I think you're missing the point. Repower was Evinrude's main business and they even ran sales promotions for it: https://boatingindustry.com/news/2015/06/01/brp-announces-evinrude-e-tec-g2-time-to-repower-event/ The marketshare distribution hasn't changed except Mercury (for the most part)...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Marina. According to them, 70% of their E-tec sales were repower, not new boats. The powerhead in the Rotax "Ghost" outboard is the identical 1.9L 3-cylinder two-stroke used in the 115 HO, 140 and 150 E-tec G2's. Complete with the E-tec 150 having RAVE exhaust valves. Not sure if they were put...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

It's not available even for pre-order yet, as far as I can tell, not even for dealer showroom stock or demo. And I think the thing is, in the outboard industry the vast majority of sales are re-powers, not new boats. If they can't enter the re-power market with it, I doubt their sales are going...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

So far they are still vaporware. They revealed the Manitou Explorer at the show in Salt Lake City with a Rotax on it and claimed they are in production. However, the Alumacraft Trophy is now claimed to be available summer 2023, not available for early order to arrive on dealer showroom floors in...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Because they are targeting a market (pontoon boaters) who don't care if it's 2-stroke, 4-stroke or 9-stroke, and they don't know the difference. As long as runs when they turn the key, don't have to mess with it and when they get ready to put it away for the winter just press a button, it's what...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

I suspect because the Evinrude G2 powerhead they are using is actually a very good engine. It is cleaner on emissions than any four-stroke, quieter, has more torque and gets better fuel economy than a four-stroke. And it is maintenance-free. Don't have to change oil in it, has push-button...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

We all know that's not gonna work, and it's not how it works. I think BRP will sell some of these on pontoons. I don't think the Alumacraft with a big flat rack on the back is going to be all that popular. It has several disadvantages as compared to an I/O. There has been several things that...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

The four-strokes of today are, for the most part, throwaway units only designed to be serviced with sub-assemblies. Take like Mercury's inline-four 8-valve four-stroke powerheads - they list the internal parts like pistons and rods but you can't actually get them. If you need a powerhead because...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

According to the statements at the Q&A session during the press release, the mounting pattern and location is compatible with other outboards on the market. For 2023, however, they will only be available on boats designed for 25" shaft length, and only on Manitou pontoons and select Alumacraft...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

Actually, Rotax has been building aircraft engines far longer than BRP has existed. The Rotax 912 is legendary as an aircraft engine for reliability and durability, and received FAA certification in 1995. In 1998 Rotax outsold all other aircraft engine manufacturers combined. Rotax has been...

    New Rotax Outboard

It looks like BRP has announced a few details of what was previously called "Project Ghost". They own Manitou and Alumacraft, so the new integrated outboard engines are only available for 2023 on those boats. The powerhead is a 1.9L G2 direct-injected two-stroke rebranded as Rotax, available in...

    1992 Mercury 40 hp 4 cylinder information

Nothing really exciting to look for there. We got that exact model year 40 on our Backtroller 14. A full tank of oil will last the entire season under normal (non-commercial) use. There is no maintenance required on the oil injection. Trying to measure how much oil it uses is pretty hard. At...

Transom Corrosion & Alumacraft not honoring warranties

That crusty yellow colored liquid is the treatment material they use in the marine plywood core of the transom. Which tells me the transom core is wet. 9 times out of 10 it's one the lower holes where the outboard mounts wasn't sealed correctly and is leaking water into the transom core. Once...
