    How fast is your Glastron?

Re: How fast is your Glastron? Evinrude E-TEC 115 on a GT180. Not a speed boat at 45 mph but enough ;)

Lower unit oil drain screws - &#%&!

The idiot (I mean, overly enthusiastic) previous owner of my 1998 Evinrude 115 over-torqued the drain screws. I was barely able to get the bottom one off, but not so the top, using the largest-blade screwdriver in my posession. What else can I try? Cordless drill with screwdriver bit?

Portable fuel tank pickup design flaw

I recently purchased a plastic 3-gallon tank, some generic brand, but it looks like the ones Nissan Marine has for their outboards. I'm using it with a Johnson 15, so it has the OMC fuel hookup attached. I filled it up and went for a run. By the second day I was down to about a third of a tank...

1998 Ficht V4 - no mention of Plug Indexing in Manual

I know the E-tec and most Ficht engines' spark plugs need to be indexed, but the owner's manual of my 1998 Ficht 115 Intruder makes no mention of this. The original owner made no mention of plug indexing, just that the EMM had been remapped with a recall. The engine shows no sign of being...

    Spiders in air intake

The air intake for my 115 Evinrude Intruder is in the front, which seems to be a favorite home for spiders. I try to get them out of there at the start of the weekend but I'm wondering what damage, if any, would result if they were to become ingested. The 115 is DI so any foreign matter would...

    1978 Johnson 15 - Solas Amita 9.25 x 10 substitute for std 9.5 x 10?

The standard aluminum 9.5 x 10 x 3 that came with the motor is getting dinged up. I notice the exact same dimensions can be had in the aftermarket, but in the slightly smaller 9.25 diameter the Solas Amita seems to be the economical choice. Would the slight diameter change (but with the same...

    Speed prop for 60-degree V4?

I originally posted this in the J/E forum but it is probably better located here. I have a 1998 Ficht 115 and have been experimenting with various propellers. All the aluminum props were 3-blade: 19" aluminum (cloverleaf blades) - high top speed at 47mph and it gave low rpm cruising but WOT...

Viper prop on Evinrude V4 - okay choice?

I have a 1998 Ficht 115 and have been experimenting with various propellers. All the aluminum props were 3-blade: 19" aluminum (cloverleaf blades) - high top speed at 47mph and it gave low rpm cruising but WOT was only 5100, too low for this engine. Holeshot was terrible. I would never try...

    Power Trim intermittent fail - 1998 60-degree V4

Power trim & tilt was working flawlessly until this weekend, when it suddenly quit. I say "intermittently" in the thread title because it worked again for a few minutes while underway then quit again. I believe the switches are fine because when either the throttle or lower cowl switches are...

    BRP Rogue Stainless prop: cupped?

They don't say in the literature if this propeller is cupped or not; are most props cupped these days, or is this one not?

Anyone try a Stainless Steel prop on 9.9/15?

Just wondering if there is any benefit to putting a stainless prop on such low horsepower. They are available, so I assume there is some benefit, but is it worth the cost?

Ebay Prop to Canada: added brokerage fees?

I'm looking at a Rogue SS prop on ebay for $379. The shipping options are approximately: $33 for UPS Standard $53 for US Postal Service I'm inclined to spend the extra for the US Postal Service, because UPS charges an exhorbitant brokerage fee to the receiver, whereas USPS does not. Has...

Pitch to high for 115 Ficht

I have a 115 Intruder, and the specifications say the ideal operationg range is 5500-6000 rpm (I believe). The guy that sold me the boat says it has a 14x 21" aluminum prop - I will verify this once I have it off. At WOT my speedometer indicated speed is 51mph at 5200 rpm. Assuming it is 21"...

Shift rod - can't engage when lower re-installed

The instructions say shifter needs to be in FWD (this is a 60-degree V4) when removing the gearcase, but when I try to push the unit back into the midsection, the rod always encounters some resistance up top which pushes it down into Neutral. I can't get the upper linkage to engage when I move...

Totally useless 60? to 90? Looper comparison

I'm wondering how the "newer" 1.7L 115 hp loop-charged engines from 1995 and up (be they carbed, Ficht, or E-tec), compare to the old-school 120 hp 90-degree V4 2.0L engines from the late 1980's-mid 1990's in terms of torque and top speed (I don't think OMC ever made a 115 loop-charged 90?-V4)...
