Sorry if I read more into the post than what was there. It struck a nerve to be sure.
And I'd rather discuss with other owners what's in their boat first hand than parrot back what my armchair research resulted in.
That adds up with the 3.7 being an aluminum block IIRC.
I had not thought about the I6 being that much heavier than the V6 but I assume you're right now that I think about it.
Yes, Starcraft has a current website but does not offer brochures/catalogs back as far as is helpful for this curiosity. I definitely checked there. They have Catalogs back to 1995. I know the Islander was made for many years prior to that as well.
Thanks! This is helpful info. I'm certainly glad mine didn't have a stringer setup, lol.
It's kind of interesting to me that they eventually used the 4.3 V6 but didn't use the 250 I6 that preceded it.
Well...I've been reading a lot of threads here for many years. Does that put me on the nice list?
I've looked at the (entirely-composed-of-broken-links) sticky info post in this section.
I've looked on the Starcraft Marine website (and leaned some of this info for the newer models)
I've kept my...
I'm just interested in knowing what different (Inboard/outboard) power setups the factory thought were suitable and installed in 19 footers over the years.
If anyone else has an I/O 19' Islander and can let me know what their boat came with, I'd be quite happy to know it.
Thanks!
I'm curious what all options for I/O power were offered (from the factory) with 19 foot Islanders?
I picked up one this weekend and it has an OMC 120 Cobra Setup (so I know about that option). I assume over the years the Mercruiser 120, 140, 3.0 (GM 2.5 and 3.0) were options.
Were the 165...
Hi Folks,
I recently got a Honda 2 horsepower outboard. I got it specifically to use on a square-stern canoe I picked up. It'll also be used for a "contingency plan" engine on my RichLine 14' project out on the Missouri River.
First step is to de-gunk the carburetor. I removed it and pulled...
Howdy all,
Recently, I tagged along with a friend when he went to buy a $50 outboard (for his '58 Lonestar project) that was advertised on Craigslist (a 40 HP, electric shift Lark is what it turned out to be). When we got there, the seller also had the boat that it had come from on a rack in...
I recently got this pontoon boat with '78 Johnson outboard. I need to replace the throttle cable (a piece of it broke) and realize it had been cobbled together a bit in the past.
The hole in the throttle lever (1st photo) appears to be about 3/8" diameter. The hole in the throttle cable itself...
Hey folks,
I have a buddy who wants to to trade a truck I've got for this Starcraft. I paced it off and guess it's 18-20 feet. HIN can probably tell us the year (but I'm not familiar with decoding HINs and could use some help). It's got a 4 Cylinder inboard/outboard. As you can see, it would be...
Hey all,
This past weekend I did some trading and came up with a Pontoon boat with a V4 engine on it. The hood says Evinrude 85 hp. I can't find an ID tag, however. The ID tag on I have found on the engine mount is a Cabrea EL75 tag (which I surmise means the engine mount is from a Suzuki 75 HP...
Hey all,
I had a problem that I thought was related to the steering bushings in my Volvo Penta AQ131D/275A.
I figured I?d contribute with a visual walk-through of the process involved in replacing the bushings. It?s not a hard job, but it will probably help others to see it here before...
Hi all,
I picked up this boat back in the fall and just finally got it in the water a couple weeks ago for the first time. I have a couple questions.
1988 Invader (not sure of model) with a Volvo Penta AQ131D (275 Outdrive)
I've read the operation manual for this setup. To rev operate the...
The title says most of it...but I'll try to cover all the bases:
I laid my '68 Johnson 6 hp engine on its side (propshaft and cranckshaft both horizontal) for about 5 or 6 days and when I set it back up, it was leaking (from the exhaust port aft of and above the prop.) gear oil (which seemed...
