    0 compression

    i did a compression test on my 260 merc today and i got 150 in all cylinders except 2. one of them has 100 and the one next to it has zero. whats up with that? blown head gasket? the engine starts right up and revs fine. this is not under a load though just in my driveway. dont hear any odd noises.

    new alternator, no tach

    i put in a alternator last year in my merc 260, its about an early 80s....well the new alternator is short a few connections...it only has the power and the ground wires....no room for the other 3 that came off the old one.. is there a tachometer out there that i can buy for this alternator?

    u joint question

    i get a grinding noise when i trim or turn, will anything drastic happen? or will it just be annoying for a bit...i am only going to be using it a few times before it starts getting cold out. then ill go about pulling the outdrive.

    iv got a late 80s merc 5.7L i replaced the alternator and the battery. the engine will run fine but the battery is like dead after i shut the engine off, it will barely crank. i kept trying to crank it and cooked the wire that goes form the alt to the battery. i can jump it and it works fine...

    what kind of outdrive?

    all my outdrive says on it is mercruiser 350, probably for the 350 engine. I am not sure by the year, the first 2 numbers in the serial are 96. does anyone have a clue of what kind it would be? alpha/bravo etc. It looks fairly larger than others iv seen.

    i have a 19 ft larson cuddy cabin with a 350 merc i/o in it. and the thing takes a long time to get on a plane, if it could it would just cruise with the bow up and not plane, but with the weight of the passengers a little forward it gets right up there and takes off. any ideas? would planing...

    my steering is frozen but before i just had some1 help me work it back and forth by pushing outdrive and turning wheel and would work great all day and then sit for a week and now its back...any ideas? with the engine shut off i can move the wheel a inch or so and hear the cable in the transome...
