I fried the gears in the lower unit on my 81 Johnson 25 so I picked up a good used lower unit from what they said was an 82 Johnson 25 off ebay.
I got it in today and the driveshaft on the 82 is a smaller diameter and instead of splines where it goes up into the motor like on my 81 it has this...
When I first get out on the water my outboard bogs and will only go about 5mph at WOT. Then after about 10-15 minutes it will start to sputter and run normally for 1-3 seconds at a time and this will last for 5 minutes then it will finally be fine and run like normal.

I got an 81 Johnson 25 on a 15ft Jon Boat that I've built a full deck and everything in and wondering if there's a different prop I can put on there to make it a little faster.
It's fast for what it is but any little extra bit of power & speed I can squeeze out of it would be great.
