Need a part number please

I need a part number for the top motor mounts on a 1975 and a 1978 Johnson 70 hp

I think that the chassis is a 1978, but I am not absolutely sure. I believe that the part is the same for both years, but would like to verify.

Thanks
cvlngineer

    Help......Update on 1975 Johnson 70 hp

    Hello,

The motor runs A LOT better. It does not bog down, and I can drive on the trailer somewhat easily. Here is what I did:

I got a new (used) set of carbs and rebuilt and installed them, along with the #2 coil, which was the only one that I hadn't changed. The motor...

    Lower unit question

    Hello,

I am just curious about what gear ratio I have in my lower unit. It is on a 1975 Johnson 70 hp motor. The lower unit may be from a 1978, though. The gear ratios are probably the same, right? If anyone has these ratios, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
cvlngineer

1975 Johnson 70 hp Top Main Bearing

    Hello,

I went out and put the required 2 hours of low, varied rpm boredom for break-in after rebuilding this motor. I noticed a slight whining coming from under the flywheel. In the rebuild kit that I got, the top main bearing, and the two center main bearings were not included, so...

    ATTN: Joe Reeves (Timing Rod???)

    Joe,

I have another question for you. I adjusted the cam on the throttle yoke, so that I would have the 4 31/32" length between the yoke and the throttle rod base. With the pickup timing set and held in place with the idle adjustment screw, the cam was advanced too far forward, to...

    1975 Johnson 70 hp .......... new information

I took the boat out yesterday and it did better, but there was still some bogging.

In forward gear...

The motor ran fine from idle up to 1600 rpm. Slowly adding more throttle bogged the engine, and it died at 1650-1700 rpm. If I gave it throttle quickly, most of the time...

    Hello,

I need to re-torque the head bolts on my 1975 Johnson 70 hp. I know that you have to loosen them a little, and then retorque, but do I loosen all of them before retightening, or loosen and retighten them one at a time?

cvlngineer

Bore diameters, piston diameters and ring gaps

Here are the dimensions that I just took from the powerhead and pistons on my 1975 Johnson 70 hp headache:

As you can tell, my #2 piston has some scoring on it. Problem with piston rings?

I have only removed the head so far, but there is a small amount of side to side play on the pistons. There is only a little, like the rings are sliding in their grooves on the piston head. What does this mean, new rings?

Thanks,
cvlngineer
