Tried to rebuild starter.... but it was going to cost as much to do that as get a new one... so it arrived today and it hangs on the two (inherited)bad spots on the flywheel.
This new starter was described as: " United Technologies style unit "
Fits ok. And...
We pulled the cylinder head cover off to access the thermostat.... found it locally at NAPA.... which is great.
But i see another hole!!!

This was a rough running motor when i got it.
Replaced a galded piston & rings
Replaced fuel pump
Replaced impeller
Overhauled both carbs
Runs out great.... top end is smooth as silk.
when idling along in gear(trolling) or sitting there idling while i do something like checking...
i bought a piston and it doesnt look like the other one (2 cyl)

problem is.... i dont know if some turkey has been in this motor before me. so i dont know which one is right.
the guy i got the piston from was really crappy service. i am willing to just start all over...
i have been looking for spark plugs or my 1982 evinrude 60hp(2-cyl)
i get lots of different part numbers and plugs depending on the site i search.....
the question: how do i know i am running the 'correct' plugs?
also... if i wanted to pay and upgrade to a little 'hotter' plug.... would that...
