    Fuel quality

Boat has been sitting in the back yard for about 5 to 6 months, still has about 15 gallons (87 octane) of fuel in it. It was originaly treated with Marine Stabil at the regular dosage at the time of fill up. I run the motor every several weeks on the hose. Going back out on the water soon, I was...

    Draining V cross members

I noticed that my V cross members don't have a drain hole, they fill with salt water. Would I cause any structural weakening if I drilled a small hole at the bottom of each?

So I want to add some tunes to the boat!

So I was thinking about this: http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/Marine/KMR-350U The admiral has an Android and the daughter has an I Phone. Looks like it would work for whatever you have. Then I was thinking of either Kenwood KFC-1633MRW 6.5-Inch 100 Watt Max power 2-Way Marine Speaker...

cross bars broke on aluminium tandem trailer

Apparently behind the U bolts there was enough corrosion that when I went down a rough road the cross bars broke. I'm trying to devise a way to fix it where it sits in my yard, although I could try to move it to my garage for a nice flat concrete floor. I'm thinking of placing a block of wood...

    Using a Spark Tester

Just got the individual gap tester. I have a 6 cylinder motor. I understand you remove all of the plugs and ground the remaining 5. What is the best way the ground the other plug wires?

    Spark Lever Screw was loose

I found sort of by accident that the spark lever screw was loose as I could move the plastic plate underneath with the ridges on it. 1999 Johnson 150 J150PXEES Looks like you have to have an Ignition Analyzer to adjust it. I moved the free play out of it towards the roller with about a 1 mm...

    Plastic Carb Rebuild

So I'm rebuilding my Plastic carbs. 1999 Johnson, Model J150PXEES The needle valve seat did not have a plastic washer. The kit does include a plastic washer. The online parts diagram does not show a washer. My vote is to leave the plastic washer off. To include or not, your thoughts???

My motor does not like warm restarts!

So I have taken my new to me boat out for the 5th time. 1999 Johnson, Model J150PXEES Starts up cold fine, runs great in gear, jumps on plane, goes through long no wake zones fine, gets up to 4900 RPM (seams a bit low, still experimenting with that). Whenever we stop and fish and go to restart...

    Is my fuel pump Bad?

1999 Johnson, Model J150PXEES Last time out it started hard cold (it ran fine once I got it going and would restart hot just bumping the key), so I replaced the fuel primer bulb and line from the bulk head to the motor and replaced the filter at the motor. Even with it idling on the trailer for...

    Rusty Spindles

Started going through the bearings today and found a worn out rear seal caused by a very rusty spindle. I took some emory cloth and after about 5 minutes started to see some metal but I have a way to go before it would all be cleaned up. How much sanding can I do before a new seal would no...

    Need prop Nut Torque

I'm switching out props and I don't have my manuel with me. Can some one please let me know what the prop nut torque should be? Model J150PXEES

    Side to Side wheel movement

So cleaning my new to me boat and trailer, I tugged on one the wheels today at the top (aluminum tandem axle). It felt like I could move the top of the tire almost an eighth of an inch and making a clunk noise (all 4 did this). The previous owner had replaced all the hubs and even gave me a box...

    Finaly got everything back together!

So my new to me boat, I went and changed the water pump, that lead to replacing lower unit seals, and that lead to replacing control cables. Thanks for everyone's help. Motor idles (Model J150PXEES) at about 950 on the trailer, I know the book says 6 to 700 in water, is the 950 in line? It...

Need help finding a control part

I figured out why my lower unit wasn't shift correctly after I installed it. Turns out the shift cable where it's connected to the back of the side mount controller was broken. It's a plastic piece that the cable goes through and lines up with the ribbed section of the cable locking it in place...

    Shift Rod Height - 1999 Johnson 150

So stupid me did not count the number of turns it took to take it off. Now when I am trying to install the lower unit it will not go up far enough to engage the pin. The book says typically 4, I even tried 3 to make it longer. I also was able to get a hook on the end and pull up to make sure...
