    rehub prop

I pulled a real bonehead move and bought a very nice prop from a guy on the internet for cheap. Only problem is the prop came off his 70 evin. 4 stroke( a point he failed to mention,) and my motor is a 1988 70hp evin. two stroke. The splines and shaft are the same size but the hub at the rear is...

    smart tab comments for John

Hey John, have had my smart tabs about 6 months now, and they have exceeded all my expectations. My boat takes off like a rocket, no bow rise whatever and handles great. Due to space considerations I had to mount them closer to the motor than you recommend, but this has had an unexpected...

    Water Pressure

1989 evin 70 hp. This motor belonged to my dad and has been in salt water all its life, seldom if ever being freshwater flushed. Several years ago It had some overheating issues and the mechanic took the thermostat out and said he drilled some holes for extra cooling( I have no idea where). This...

    More bite

I have a 1989 70 hp evinrude pushing a 17 ft bayhawk -very small tunnel, basicly a flat bottom. I am running a 15 pitch rapture 3 blade and have smart tabs. Due to fishing in extreme shallow water I run this motor with the propshaft about even with the bottom of the hull. I have a remote water...

    Scientific evidence for decarb

This has been bothering me for a while, and I have searched the forum with little result. I read a lot about the wonderful benefits of a decarb but does anyone have any real hard evidence that it is effective? Im talking about before and after engine teardowns- real scientific proof- not my...

    control cable too short

1986 evinrude 70 hp. I replaced the throttle control cable and did a link and sync. But I cant get the idle rpm lower than about 1500 on muffs because I cant adjust the cable any farther. It is screwed completely in and doesnt pull the lever back far enough. Are these cables adjustable...

    Another smart tabs question

I e-mailed nauticus but havent heard back from them so I thought I would throw this question out here also. I boat in the southern laguna madre where the average water depth is about 1 foot. Thats right 1 foot. I have an older model bayhawk with only a very small tunnel and a 70 hp. evin. I have...

barlow - tarpon report from Tx

Hey guys, just wanted to share a story from this week. I have started fly fishing, havent hooked a tarpon yet, but did manage to land a 40" jack crevalle. What a fight, took over an hour, caught him in the surf, not more than 15 ft. from the beach. He was crashing bait up onto the sand. But, the...

    1969 85 HP Johnson Hydro-Electric Lower Unit

If it's working properly and not leaking oil out or water in, all you need to do is change the oil, Type C, and maybe change the water pump.

    Question for Flyrod

Flyrod, you seem to know how to catch large fish on flyrods so maybe you can answer this.We have some flyfishermen here who fish for tarpon, they use 12-13 wt. flyrods but just 20 pound tippets. They seem to think the flyline will not handle any more pressure, so they do not land many fish. Do...

    another prop question

If I reduce the diameter of a 17 pitch prop from 14 in to 12 in. what sort of effect does this have? Is pitch effectively reduced or just efficiency or none of the above? I'm experimenting again, but would like to know what possible effects to expect and any benefits or drawbacks.

    prop mods

Been working on my "experimental " boat. Took an old prop, a hammer and curved piece of wood and put a serious cup on the prop. Was able to raise the motor a good six inches without ventilating. The object of this boat is to see how shallow I can get it to run. Went in about 4 inches yesterday...
