I have upgraded my 1985 Mercruiser 470 from points to the Pertronix ignition.
My question is what color is the resistance wire running to the coil so I can be sure I have unhooked the correct wire so I get a solid 12v to the coil?
Also, where exactly is the resistor itself located and can I just...
This boat is a 1985 Thompson
When I did some searching I have found some of the earlier 470s only had one solenoid on the starter like you have mentioned
Yeah, it's one of those I have delt with on Ford trucks and cars back in the day. Never even thought my boat had 2 solenoids. We learn new lessons every day.

I have an old chevy starter off a...
I just bought a used motorguide xi3 with pinpoint GPS. Wanting to know if it needs to be deployed to record a route or can I leave it stowed/powered on and record the route using the outboard?
You need 12v to the coil, make sure it is not running off the reduced 6.whatever voltage the original point ignition used.
Also, pertronix needs to use a 3ohm coil, mine came with the 3ohm flamethrower coil.
This is on my 1986 Mercruiser 470
Hello All,
I am working on my 1986 Merc 470 and lost the bushing (#22) for the shift assembly on the side of the engine. Wondering if the bolt for the newer design is the same OD size as the old design bushing?
