Found out, that existing thermostat in my 1981 boat engine (GM 350 CID )is 140* but recommended for those engines is 160* ,any ideas why previous owner used 140* ?

Getting ready AQ290a engine in my CC 251 Catalina project boat,anybody still using this engine?
Need some pics or schematics for routing cooling system houses including oil cooler etc.
Upgrading my 2.5 inch free flow silencers to 3.5 inch ,originally my were installed vertically close to the transom ,now I did some research and find out ,that usually they are installed in flat position.

Bronze or plastic transducer?
I seem to be getting conflicting information about the use of plastic transducers on wooden hulls, some say use bronze because the plastic might crack as the wood swells/moves, others have never heard this before. Bronze Furuno transducers are much more expensive...
Working on ChrisCraft Catalina boat project.Just reaped off old carpet which was glued on the steps to the cabin.
It left ugly layer of brownish harden glue.
Anybody had remove that with success ? Any chemicals I can use to do this job ?
Just wonder if there are any benefits for using aftermarket intake manifold like Edelbrock Performer for 350 small block marine engine with rochester quadrajet carburetor ?
Maybe other modifications like carb spacer ,different camshafts ?
Anybody have experience with that ?
Just got the boat several weeks ago with Volvo Penta AQ290A V8 5.7l inboard ,raw water cooling system,with Paragon tranny.
This is new engine to me,also never had inboard before,have no owner manual,what is proper way to winterize this power plant ?
Have my project boat out of the water, try to run engine GM350 (1984) with Rochester 4MV Quadrajet carburetor.
Did accelerate engine to 5000 RPM ,but notice the large air valve plate (secondary power system) never opens.
When had boat in the water , under the load couldn?t reach more than 3200...

Did run compression test on this engine ,not sure if results are satisfied :

repeated test twice to confirm,need to run one or two seasons of this engine before rebuild.

Having problems with finding right ign. coil for this unit.
