I ordered the listed impeller according to the serial number etc for my Yamaha/Mariner 8 hp and when it arrived (from the UK which was the only place I could get it!!!) it was too big across the shaft center hole. I'm probably going to have a guess at the one for the next serial...
My old (71/72) 8 hp mariner (actually a made in japan yamaha) pumps water but the water stops pumping when I put the motor into gear (either forward or reverse) any ideas?

Must it have one?
What difference will running without make?
I live in the tropics so cold weather running is not an issue.

My 1976 Johnson 70 hp had lousy compression (mid 50's all three) so I pulled the heads and the cylinders look smooth and ok. The local wrecker can get a used powerhead.
What would be included on the replacement? - Like does it have the pistons, crank, cylinders, etc?
Is it worth replacing it...
