1994(ish) Mercury 225 carb serial number unreadable, location of tab on power head?

Like the title suggests, I have twin 1994 Mercury 225 Offshore carbed models. The serial number stickers are present on both brackets and not damaged or altered (motors arent stolen), but the numbers themselves had completely faded away. I know there is usually an attached metal "tab" on the...

When repowering, is going to larger engines going to give me better fuel consump

So here we go again. I have a Sea Ray Sundancer 280, about 32 foot overall. Its large and heavy, and still has factory v-6 4.3's. I was told if I bumped up to twin v-8s, my fuel consumption would go down (better gas milage) because they have to work less to get up on plane, keep on place, etc...

New 5.7 exhaust manifolds on a 1981 engine

I have just finished building a replacement motor for a 1981 Sea Ray. I was told when replacing the exhaust manifolds, to swap the standard rear rise manifolds with the newer center rise. Evidently the exiting air flow is more equal giving a bit more efficiency and power, and the bolt patterns...

Is this thru hull exhaust too low on the transom?? Check the pic

This was a custom job done on a boat I am thinking about buying. On all the other diagrams for fitting custom thru hull exhaust systems, it always seemed they suggested being at LEAST a few inches above the outdrive. What do you guys think..will this be a problem??

To broker or not to broker, that is the question...

I have recently repowered a 1989 280 Sea Ray Sundancer, upgrading the twin 4.3's to 5.7's. The interior is in excellent condition, and it has EVERY option you could imagine. Central heat/AC, 3.5 kW GenSet, radar, GPS, satallite T.V., hot water. You name it, it has it. The boat itself is in...

    4.3's to 5.7's swap in 280 Sundancer

After the discussion in my last post, and the advice of several of you (Thanks!! by the way) I have made the decision to go ahead and swap the twin 4.3's with the 5.7's. I am ordering them tomorrow A.M. and they should arrive by Friday. The motors each will come with block, heads, intake...

Twin 4.3's in 280 Sea Ray SunDancer

I have just purchased a 1989 Sea Ray SunDancer that according to my marine mechanic is a hair under 32 ft LOA. It currently has twin 4.3's, one seized completely and one still running, but with some hours on it. I made the decision to go ahead and replace both at the same time, despite the...
