    evinrude 1980 115 hp shift linkage disconnect.

    I need to replace the water pump and since I have removed the carbs so I can replace all the fuel recirculating lines I figured this would be a good time except not sure what to loosen as I see no pin just a type of cradle that the rod comes into from the back. Here are a couple of pics.

    1980 evinrude 115 hp water pump replacement

    There are supposed to be 2 wires ( shift wires ) to disconnect to pull off the lower end. I don't see them but someone told me they are midway down. Does this mean I can pull the lower and and while doing so I will find the 2 wires. ?

    I was doing routine maint installing new plugs and checking all my fluids and making sure the wiring was all intact with no cracked insulation or hoses and found this strange wire.
