    1981 35 hp Evinrude overheats.

    I have taken this boat out twice in the last two years and each time I got about 50 ft out and it overheated. I replaced the water pump and it blows water out of the telltale hole. I also changed thee thermostat and the ignition coils cause they were melted. I am at my wits end .what to do or...

    overheating.........

    Last year I had a new water pump put in and after taking it out in about five minutes it died.The little hose was plugged with some caulk like substance. after fixing that I noticed the coils got so hot the plastic on them melted.     ignition coils

    I got a 1981 Evinrude 35 hp that I overheated do to water pump failure. It got hot enought to melt the plastic around the coils. It runs alright till I put it in gear then in about five minutes it dies and wont start . Think if I replace both coils that that will fix it or not?I have had it...
