A couple buddies and I are putting in on the St. Joe river and are heading over to Belmont Harbor in Chicago.
I've never made this trip before so I'm hoping some other members can give some tips to make the trip a bit smoother.
I will likely only be on bigger water a handful of times in this...
I finally found the boat that I love, the only problem is the mercruiser V6 pushing it. It's not bad but at 20' plus passengers it really is at it's performance limit.
Which brings me to where I am now. Do I repower the boat? I know a fair amount of what it will take to do such a thing, I'm...
I finally got the boat started today, it's been a test of my patience to say the least.
I got this thing on a trade, that being said it has sat for 6 years. I will do my best to try and break down what I have done thus far.
New Items:
Trim motor replaced (irrelevant, I know)
Starter
Ignition...
I'm looking at getting a boat free and clear on a trade in the next few days. I am hoping to get a better idea of what I'm getting into before I go pick it up. Like the topic says I only have the Hull I.D.
I'm hoping that with that info there is a web site or something that can tell me more...
So some time back I posted or asked about swapping out a marine motor for an automotive. After a bunch of trouble I got the auto motor swapped out. I got it timed and ran fine in neutral. However when under load it would get over 2100 rpm (that was still on the trailer at the launch). On the...
Completed the rebuild. No I need to set timing or make sure it's correct but the old timing cover doesn't seem to be matching up the necessary location to correctly do so.
Lifter and pushrods are now set to spec (3/4 turn past zero lash). TDC has been confirmed and is correct.
3 things...
1994 GM 4.3L V6

NON Vortec heads
Thunderbolt IV ICM
Crank, cam, and balance shaft timing marks all aligned on install. TDC has rotor pointing at #1 cylinder on compression.

I purchased a boat with a cracked block, didn't know it but thats a story for a different day. Today however I need help with a botched purchase of a pre-vortec 4.3. Turnes out I purchased a vortec with TBI. My intent was just to use the block from the automotive engine and swap over my...
I found that I have a cracked block.
With that said, I am now on the hunt for a new motor. I have mine down to a long block and is ready to be removed from the boat.
I have found what seems to be a viable replacement except the potential replacement is 3 years newer.
My current (junk)...
1991 Merc 4.3, alpha 1 gen 1,
shifting and functionality is fine in and out of forward, goes in to reverse fine comes out fine except for stalling.
It seems to me that the shift interrupt is malfunctioning. I just brought the boat home yesterday so I havent done any leg work yet but im...
My old 86' SeaRay has a pretty good running 3.0L but I think I'd like a bit more umph to get her going? Ask some questions and reading a bunch on boats of that era tell me they are heavy and the 3.0L might make it an under powered boat. I really LOVE the boat it's very very clean for her age...
So when I power the system all my gauges jump except the speedo and tach. I am new to boating so I'm not sure what temp a boat typically runs at (merc 3.0L 140)
I have read on how to check the wire for the tach, following the single grey wire from the soleniod. Well I could do that but there...
I just got my first boat two weeks ago and she has been a bit problematic. Granted Im new to boating but by no means new to wrenching. After taking possession of the vessel I had to get it running which was a carb rebuild and fuel pump install.
Well the previous owner took cheap way out from...
