    Thanks. Pulling the engine and oil pan is a major and expensive alternative (it lives on a lift, no trailer etc). I understand that a blown engine would require this, obviously. As long as the dipstick tube hasn’t changed location, then it would seem that the height of the measured oil level...

    I am changing my 6.2 MPI starter and noticed that the hot 12v battery lead connects to the solenoid terminals directly, with the 90 amp fuse supplying the smaller red wire that goes to the red circuit breaker on top of the engine. I can’t see this level of detail on the wiring diagrams...

    Thanks! I used an aftermarket SB aluminum pan due to chronic salt exposure. It looked about the same as the old pan, but could easily be a quart different. So my question is whether to rely on the dipstick vs actual oil used.

    Thanks to all. I checked all these without findings. Although the original belt was nearly new and not previously noisy, I changed out the belt and the chirping has resolved !!

    Group, I have a 2008 Merc 6.2 MPI Bravo 3 with 500 hours. We just had the engine out to replace a corroded Y pipe. We replaced the raw water pump, alternator and P/S pump. After about 8 hours, a chirping noise developed, apparently from the front of the engine. The serpentine belt is fine...

    Mercruiser y pipe corrosion

    Has anyone tried powder coating or other techniques to minimize corrosion on the lower flange area of the aluminum y-pipe, which lives in bilge water and outside raw water? This $1000 part requires pulling the engine to replace!!

    A number of articles on the MerCruiser 6.2 MPI note the addition of an intake resonator and aft-facing throttlebody for intake noise mitigation. I don’t see these parts on my MerCruiser engine or service manual. Does anyone know how you can tell if they are present?

    Boat wandering at slow speeds, videos attached

    Has anyone actually installed smart tabs and NOT noticed an improvement? My 27’ Tahoe had a terrible wander. The transom shape also limits where tabs could be installed. With the new tabs, not only does my boat get planed off a few seconds faster, the wander is 95% gone.

    When the boat wanders in one direction, the tab to the outside of the turn encounters more drag, which counters the turn. Smart Tabs cured 95% of the wandering on my 27’ Tahoe, even though I could only mount them 1/2 way up the transom.

    Same here. Smart Tabs cured the wandering on my 27’ Tahoe.
