What wires would you test to get resistance on a stator for a 1985 3 cylinder Mercury. The stator has one red and one blue wire. Would it be red and blue to ground or red to blue?

I know I need a manual but this is for a friend and..................
is there any way to use a stator off an inline 6 115 HP to test an 8o HP stator? I know the 80 HP only has one switch box but I thought there might be a way to use the stator just to test it.
1970 Johnson 6 HP stopped pumping water. It was pumping fine and then just stopped. Checked out the water pump and it all looked good. Impeller looked nearly like new. Sprayed water through all the outlets and inlets and it seems to be clear. Also checked with the thermostat out. Any ideas...
I really did not know where to post this so here goes. I have a Bill Dance foot control trolling motor. When I put it on the highest speed (5), the wire gets hot and blows the fuse. Any ideas what might cause this or how I can fix it? It works great on 4 but not 5.
Do I have to have the special tool to remove the bearing carrier nut on a 1982 115 HP Mercury? I think this seal is ok but while I had it off I thought I would go ahead and replace them all.
I just pulled the lower unit on my 1983 115 HP Merc to change the seals. When I got it off I tried to change the gears but it would not come out of forward. Did I do something wrong or is this normal? I believe it has the ez shift b/c it does ratchet when in gear. What do I do next?
I am going to order a seal kit for my l6 115 HP 1983. I am also replacing the impeller of course. Should I order the water pump repair kit or will everything I need be in a seal kit to replace the impeller? What would be the advantages of a repair kit?
When I bought my boat and took it out the lower unit was tight. I checked it after taking it out. The oil was old in it so I drained it and put new in. I put new screw seals in. Now the oil is milky. Is there an explanatin for why it would leak after using new oil?
Is there any way to test the rectifier on my 115 hp mercury (1983)? I put one on yesterday that I thought was good just to see if the rectifier could be my problem and it started blowing the fuse to the starter. Is there any way to test and make sure the one I have is good?
