    Metal deterioration problem

    I have a mid 80s 8hp johnson compression bad no start I removed head and had a look the metal is deteriorated on the outside of the steel sleeve of one of the cylinders almost completely gone.Heres my question will a new head gasket make a seal just on top of the steel sleeve.
