I need the reverse gear for a 1987 Johnson 50 HP. I checked the parts section of this website and found the gear for the period of 1989 to 1996. Not 1987. So any guidance on a location where I could find the gear would be very much appreciated.
Help. I have an older but reliable 50 HP Johnson tiller that pops out of reverse when I remove my hand from the shift lever. I have heard that this may be the clutch dog or possible the gears need to be realigned.
Is there any way a novice can determine the problem?

I have a 1987 Johnson 50 HP tiller that will go into reverse when I push on the shift knob but it kicks out when I let go of the shift knob. Any Ideas what is wrong? Any suggestions for items to check? Other than this the motor has been great for as long as I have used it. Thanks for your help.
