ok...it's an 81 seawirl... I pulled the plugs and there seemed to be water in a cylinder... I'm thinking head gasket?... I don't know... it still cranks slow even with the plugs pulled and the starter wire positive is still getting hot... is it becaue I am using my truck battery right now? my...
I have a mercruiser 898... thing it's a ford engine? It came in an 81 seaswirl and was told it was the original engine... Took it to the lake first thing and dropped it in... It fired right up and I was excited. It went into reverse... although it seemed a little slow it seemed fine... it then...
I have looked for pics but I don't understand where the tilt trim tab is to get the other bolt or anything like that... are there pics somewhere?? I can't find them....

Re: 1977 evinrude... two questions... I'm a little scared....
oh... sorry about that... I believe its 115799s
ok... update... after some prying the stuff out.... it's not a sealant.... it's a piece of something plastic but I have...
Ok... so this is the one that I didn't know if it was two stroke or four.... I disconnected the kill wire and got it started no problem.... was letting it idle a little and then the idle went through the roof before I could disconnect the battery wire... it's now giving the overheat alarm... it...
Re: I feel like an idiot...I don't know if my evinrude is a 2 stroke or 4...
ok... so I will get those tomorrow as it looks like they have them at the local kragen....but in the meantime, I decide to clean the carbs to the best of my ability since I don't have any carb cleaner... I used gas...
I feel really dumb, particularly since this isn't my first outboard, or dirtbike or four wheeler... but I still have never heard a real answer to this question that works for me.
The model is 115799s it's evinrude and from what I have found the year is 1977... I tore the floor out of the boat...
got it to the lake, put in gear and synced the carbs, thought it was running great but speed tops out at 25mph. Is this normal? it's a 1975 75hp chrysler, 16ft 1959 glaspar, with myself (140lbs) and a buddy of mine (about 225lbs). I also have added a steel cap to the transom made of 12 gauge...
okay so I want to change the lower unit oil so I'm reading on here and it's kind of scarring me... I thought I knew what the drain and vent plug were but some other screw is in there too that you should never remove? how do I know I'm on the right one? next, I pulled out the vent screw to check...
okay so I have decided that the overheat indicator might be important. I wired a 12 v led light to the warm wire and then back to the ignition wire. My question is will this work as a method of indication? Does this circuit deliver 12v? or something lower? I don't really have the money for...
I still can't figure this thing out. I'm new to boating but I have automotive background so I'm not totally out of my element. I have intermittent starting issues based on what I believe is the battery going dead. When started I can't find the screw to adjust the idle so I need to know that...
Well I have many questions but this needs to be answered before I proceed as I am afraid I am causing damage. I have a 1975 chrysler 75 hp and I need to know where the heat and generator (orange and purple) wires should connect. I know this is probably stupid, but I keep thinking generator...
