My engine makes a sound just like a chain clanking against a flag pole in the wind. So, it's not really a "ping", but more like a "pong, p-p-pong, p-pong". It only starts after the engine warms up, and is only audible from idle 'till about 1,500 RPM at which point it's either gone or drowned out...
