I have a 1968 Evinrude 85 HP and I just rebuilt the starter on it. I put it back together and tried to start it looked back and the starter was smoking at the post, so I stop and looked at the battery too and the neg cable was hot as hell. What went wrong here. At least I know were I can get...
There was a post about being able to perform a car coil coversion on a 1968 Evinrude / Johnson. I have a 85HP manual shift and was wondering what parts are involved and the instructions for performing this conversion.
My evinrude is having trouble starting. I have changed the plugs and they are getting spark (ouch!). Seems like if I give her a shot of starter fluid she will fire up. I just done care about carrying a can of starter fluid with me. Once she starts she runs just fine. Any tips out there...
I have seloc manual (should throw it in the trash) it is not much help. After the impeller plate is removed there is a little box that the driveshaft goes through is that part of the water pump? If not everything looks good, but it was not circulating water after I put it back together...
I have a 1968 Evinrude 85 HP I was wondering what is involved in rebuilding a water pump. It looks like in the book it is just replacing the impeller, gaskets, bushings, and o-rings. It just looked to simply! :confused:

How thick are lower unit seals. I lack 1/16" from shifting into forward and I have two seal to place in between shaft pieces. equals to 1/32" each. :eek:
I am trying to remove the exhaust cover on my 68 evinrude 85hp. I need to replace the shifter lever assembly. I removed all the bolts I could find, but it looks like it is attached to the boat itself and the exhaust will not lift out. I can't find anything in the repair manual on it. :confused:
