Guys in a thread from last year you suggested the same, and you were correct! I did totally break down thr carbs and cleaned ALL the paths as suggested, and they were indeed gunked up, fishing line for the win.
What I am dealing with now is no/intermittent spark on the lower plug. It should be...
One thing I learned with all this is if you want to buy a boat, do it long before your kids are colleg age, because it's hard to say you can't afford their tuition as you roll up with a new boat.
But back to the motor, I was messing around with it yesterday, and unbelieveably I saw no spark on...
Ok reporting back from the dock. Still has the problem of bogging down in gear. The bogging down problem is new, it started the last time I had it out before I changed the thermostat. Here is what happened exactly:
[Last trip before changing thermostat]
I was cruising around, fishing was not...
Thanks guys, learned something new today. Looper vs crossflow.
Ok so I put the seal flange in backwards. Can't undo that. My thinking was with the flange point towards the block the thermostat it sat in there better and did not move around when assembling. At least anyone with the same...
Ok another question. A dumb question, but I'd rather ask a dumb question than waste a ton of time and money fixing the impeller. I wanted to flush the motor a little bit before putting it back together. When I crank the motor no water is coming out of the thermostat and relief valve holes. Does...
Tomorrows the day, putting it all back together. Can I get some help with the thermostat seal? I'm not sure what side the flange should be on. Manual is not clear. I've found pictures and videos with it both ways.
I've had the same experience with my lithium starting battery*. It lasts days without needing to charge. Provides a steady current no matter if it's at 80% or 40%. Just flat. And I removed/disconnected the stator and rectifier so will never need to replace those parts. The only downside so far I...
I may do that, I'm thinking it over. Just a matter of when, I want to get this back together and salvage the spring fishing season, and I also dont want to poke to hard at 40 years of buildup without doing a very thorough job. I see there is another plate I can remove on the side. Perhaps next...
Ok I went ahead and ordered the parts anyway since the total wasn't that bad.
[0323359] Screw (3) $4.44
[0315538] Cylinder Head Cover Gasket (1) $6.43
[0316132] Grommet (1) $11.23
[0310058] Thermostat Housing Seal (1) $3.5
[5005440] Thermostat Assembly (1) $24.08

They are both almost exactly the same at 160 psi. Note - the last two times I checked it was not as high. Is this bad? Should I bother ordering the parts to fix the thermostat?
Oh boy. Let me check the compression real quick. It did this immediately after drifting for about 5-10 minutes, and before that it was running normally.
Inspected the thermostat and only thing I can conclude is that it was stuck closed and the pressure relief valve must have gotten stuck closed as well or clogged, leading it to overheat. I don't know how those correlate to it going into a sort of "limp mode" before this happened. I had it full...
