Does anyone have experience with the GLM aftermarket upper gearcases for the OMC Stringer? I would like to hear some reviews before I spring for one. I have the 140 hp 1983 model so I would want the GLM27500 unit.
At the bottom of the upper gearcase on the 83 3.0 OMC Stringer there are 2 identical seals. Part number 981268. These seals are installed 'back to back'.
My question is, are the seals supposed to be installed flush with the housing, or recessed into the housing? The books call for a 'seal...

As my waterpump job grows bigger I am trying to remove the 'back to back' seals just above the water pump. I did get the outer seal off using more violence than I like.
Please tell me the correct way to remove these seals because I have more to do in the future.
