1984 Johnson 50 began to overheat. R&R’d the cooling system with new water pump, thermostat, and gaskets. Removed the head and cleaned the water jackets. Solved the overheating issue but noticed this. I want to think I’ve seen it before and hoping there’s not a head gasket leak.

Carbs removed, cleaned in the ultrasonic, and replaced with OEM re-build kit. The bowls were full of what I would describe as wet brown sugar. Fuel pump screen and gasket replaced too.
Started right up and idles smooth. Thanks.
I think I got it. I narrowed it down with my multimeter and found major corrosion in the wiring harness plug under the tape. The red/purple wire was the culprit. Thanks.
