for my 9.9 yam 4 stroke. Big end is to an 89 140 vro. Do I need stainless? Anyone have some recommendations of what I should get? Old one keeps disconnecting itself which can be awkward if I have 4 lines in the water.

1989 johnson 140 (formerly vro) Have been troubleshooting low power. Carefully cleaned all my coil contacts. Engine started fine but was running erratically with periodic pops. Checked spark with a timing light on all 4 cyls. and seems good on all cyls ... except when I checked idle timing on #1...

Just installed a 1983 fuel pump and am running premixed gas. One problem to overcome was that the recommended pump did not have a fitting for the vacuum pulse. (This 1989 140 v4 does not appear to have the alternate 'bolt the fuel pump to the auxilliary position' that I have read...
All of a sudden I have crappy spark across the board and want to disconnect the kill circuit to eliminate the easy stuff first. My manual says a black/yellow connector between power pack and ignition. Can anyone give me a more concise idea of where to look to locate? I lifted the power pack...

owned for 1 year and had tons of trouble last spring till i discovered fuel line gas/air leaks (thank you marine doctor!)
-fogged in fall and drained fuel tank on boat
-disconnected vro last week and filled tank with 90 liters gas mixed 50:1 and 1 can 'sea foam'

Just got a 89 johnson 140 vro ('ready to go ....hah!') and now have to spend $800 on a tune up and carb job (there are four) to get it to run
I would like to be prepared to do my own work by next spring.
Any advice on the best manual to buy? I have a clymer from the library and am not...
