Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I am bringing the boat in tomorrow for the impeller work and I thought I would post a couple of pictures. Finally got the name on the boat.
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
We launched today. I was a little apprehensive about the ramp, but launching and retrieving was very smooth. My van pulled the boat up without any problem. Two issues though. I ran the motor on muffs in the driveway before we left and...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I ran the motor in the driveway for 20 minutes or so and it ran very well. I haven't launched yet. My new gas gauge is supposed to arrive on Monday or Tuesday and since I have to remove the panel I made for it and the shift controls ( and a...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
Well, the interior of the boat is now complete. The VHF antenna was delivered today and I installed it. Just for giggles I decided to fire up the engine. The gas tank was dry so I had to pour a little gas in the carb tube. After a little...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I got a lot accomplished over the last couple of days. At this point I should meet my goal of having the boat ready to go by Christmas.
I put the main battery back in to test all of the wiring I did and everything works - the new blower...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I finished carpeting the front bow pieces. The very front one has a hatc to store the trolling motor battoery. The double offset hinge worked great. It is barely visible and the bow aluminum piece works as a ledge for supporting the front of...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I used etching primer on bare spots (I created most of them when I sanded off JB Weld that I used for filling holes I wouldnt be using) and regular primer over that. Honestly, I wish I would have sanded the second coat and applied a final...
I am going to install a bow mount Motorguide trolling motor in my boat. This trolling motor will have a dedicated battery in the bow, not connected to anything but the trolling motor. The instruction manual says to connect a ground wire between the two batteries in the boat with a common...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
Here is another picture of the side mount. I kinda like where the gas gauge is. I thought about dropping a gauge from the dash cluster and adding it there, but For my purposes it works being where it is.
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
My mounts are just a friction mount so I will just use a hacksaw. There was no room on the dash for anything more.
The restoration is going smoothly and a Christmas launch is still my goal - if the weather cooperates.
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I took out a couple of inches of width for the jump seat frames to they were just about the width of my new seats. As you can see from the licture, I lowered the seat back too so there isnt a gap. After recovering the panels and putting them...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I got a lot of work done on the boat today. I wired for the gas gauge I will be installing - still waiting for the gauge to arrive. I also put both consoles back of. Getting the gauges to all line up was quite a bit of work. I put the...
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I thought I had cleaned the steering wheel off with Simple Green, but it didn't work. I am aware of Back to Bkack, but I was wondering if there is some household chemical that would clean of the white junk. See pic. Thanks.
Re: My '72 Starcraft 18' SS 140 Mercruiser Project
I will ground it anyway. While monkeying around in the boat, see pic of consoles and panels dry installed, I was searching for the pink sending wire in the stern for the fuel gauge (moeller 18 gal tank). Couldnt find it. When to gauge cluster...
