Many controllers will work just make sure they are for the same cables...Merc control.
Does it look like this for example?

Wow! A ton of rust! Maybe time to hunt a new manifold..
I know they make them for the old OMC Cobra but not sure on the Stringer drive..
What engine is it?
Did some looking and they do make a replacement for the 3.0 Stringer manifold.
I tried but having problems transferring them from my phone to something I can post on here!
I have a video of it running and shifting on first start up.
Time to get on my Chris Craft next after I do steering and Impeller and carbs on a 40 HP Evinrude.
people need to learn to run non ethanol gas and run them out of gas before Winter!
The little 33HP was delivered today..Boat purrs like new.
Rebuilt gear case, all new fuel lines, pump, tank, and rebuilt card...bump the key and it fires right up.
The boat is a 1968 and looks new.
The owner stores it in a climate controlled garage...That thing is really nice!
Thanks everyone! Compression is 120 on both cylinders cold.
Good spark but was getting no fuel.
Replaced all of the fuel lines and the owner told me to just replace the fuel pump..
Got the carb on the bench and it was in need of major cleaning..
I got the rebuild kit and about ready to bolt it...
Thanks Guys! Just came back in from the shop...I put a fatter O-ring in it and it passes a pressure test now! Fun tearing it back down for that!
It was the original OMC part number so not sure why it did not seal...
Yes...The o-ring fit but the inside diameter must have been off is all I can...
