What is the procedures to measure your transom / trailer to your raised outdrive
to fit an outdrive trailering support brace into the picture ?
I have seen several listings for units for sale but none give any details about how they attach to the boat /trailer or how they attach to the...
Hea, all you captain's -o -the ship ! I saw some ad's on the web for some rather inexpensive ($50-$69) Engine block heaters . One of the ones I looked at had magnetic holds so you could stick it against your block and plug it in to 110 volt outlet or extension cord. Would or could this be...
Hey sea hound jockey's , got a question for ya's . On the 3.0 merc 181 iron duke GM motor. Do all of the water drain plugs open in the same pattern as a common theaded bolt?? Righty tighty -- lefty loosey?? I just don't want to snap a bolt head or strip something out.....

Hey all you water jockey's - got's a question for yas! I just purchased a 4 channel CD player /radio for my 18 foot bowrider. I have only 2 speakers now,

Does anybody offer a kit of parts that you can order that includes all the gaskets, o rings, lube, etc. that would be required after you remove your
outdrive at seasons end? Seems like it would make rounding up all those
parts in one mouse click would an L of allot easier without possibly...
Hey all you water jockeys- Got a question for ya. Have not heard anybody
talkin bout this one lately. With winterizing coming and gear lube flying around and such. Well hear we go: When you drain your crank case oil from your motor you can take it to the auto parts store to dump it...
How do you know if your not getting good gas millage on your 3 litre merc.
I was told 30 mph @ 3000 rpm = 3 gallons per hour in my 18 foot VIP.
My math says thats 10 miles per gallon. Would this figure seem real good?
I have seen ads for newer boats saying 3 to 6 is considered normal.
But...
Is my 3.0 litre mercruiser and 181 cube iron duke motor subject to water freezing in the motor or outdrive if the temps get low enough for a freeze in
Florida??? It happens sometimes but not very often or for very long during
the worst of winter. Should I just try to make sure most of the...

Our 3.0 litre mercruiser (GMC 181) Is very hard to get started when cold.
If the boat has sat for say 2 weeks and you try to start it by the manual's
directions for cold starting it will stumble repeatedly. usually a large amount
of throttle has to be applied to get her to clear her throat...
We went to Cedar Key this summer for a one day trip. It is about 130 miles
north west of Orlando. In the big bend area of Fla. Only a few miles south
of the Swanney river. It sits right out on the gulf . About 6 or more little islands you can go to in a few short minutes. Really nice...
I just recently did some remodeling on my VIP interior. I found that a bunch of the lower sections of wooden seat supports were completely rotten about 3 to
4 inches up from the carpet. Same with the engine cover. I figured it was due to the boat being kept uncovered and when it rained it...
Is there only one type of grease required for the proper maintenence of the Mercruiser Alpha 1 outdrives? I would have to get the grease gun or guns
ready for pre-season lube duties! Any thought's? Special adapters , etc.
Thanks in advance

I saw a recent response about the replacement of the power steering/alternator belt on the 3.0 mercruiser. Very helpful . It advised to add several of these belts and tying them off . In case of breakage you could replace it on the fly in about 5 minutes . My question here is :
If the...
Is there any secret how to read where it is coming from if you spot a leak ?
Just because water is in the bottom of the boat does not tell you where it
got in. If you stand outside the boat and squirt a water hose around the hull
you might get lucky and see it . If it was from a seal or...
