    flexibility

I have a 1988 3.7 221 starcraft islander. I am looking for all the gas mileage I can get. I have a 3blade merc prop 19" pitch. The book says 4200-4400rpm WOT. It runs top end at 4500 loaded. The 3.7 I,m told was designed to be a high torque engine? I want to go to a 4 blade prop. I would like...

    sinking feeling-more info

Have 1988 221 Islander with 3.7/470 alpha one. I seem to have developed a leak but can see no water "moving in" in bilge when in water. When filled with water on trailer get a tiny weep on rear seam. Can't find any loose rivets or dents. Don't know much about outdrives. Can't see upper...

    good?

My spare prop is a Michigan style(separate lock nut/big back spacer bushing). It appears to be the same pitch as the original Mercruiser. The spare has a cupped edge. What would be the performance difference? Michigan still considered a good prop? If I go to a four blade do I drop the pitch size?

    Prop size

I have a 470 3.7 in a 22ft. Starcraft Islander. Approx.2200lbs. I'm told the 3.7 1988 is good for 4200rpms. I like the sound of it better at 35-3800. 28 mph at that rpm but have at least 25% more throtle. Would like to prop it so I'm at 4000rpm WOT. Where are the pitch # on mercruiser prop? Is...

    The dreaded 3.7

Hi I just bought an 88 Islander 221 with the 3.7 motor. 22ft Islanders are hard to find here in Maine . When I finally found one it has a 3.7 in it! Much rather have a 140 4. Well I guess I'm in for an education. The alternator has dealer retro. It does not overheat, has low hours, and has...
